The Best Zombie Deaths Ever!
Just like the deaths of people in horror movies, zombies also often get the sharp end of the stick and freqeuntly return to the grave for the final time. Whether it's via gun shot to the head, fire, truck hits, brutal beatings with hammers, anything which damages the brain will bring those flesh eating monsters down! Inside this archive you will find yet more blood, gore, violence and zombies!

Dawn of the Dead: Machete Head
This famous zombie death from George A. Romero's classic zombie-fest Dawn of the Dead (1978) again shows why Tom Savini is the best special effects artist ever. Using the imfamous Savini machete seen in other movies such as Friday the 13th Parts 1 and 4 as well as Day of the Dead. During the biker attack on the mall, the zombies get in whilst the greedy gang loot the shops. As the zombies begin to retake the mall, the bikers are soon overrun. After being knocked off his motorcycle by another zombie, Tom Savini's character gets back up to knock down and kill the zombie behind him by embedding his trusty machete into the flesh eater's head. A true classic zombie death from a true classic zombie film.

Dawn of the Dead: Head Explosion
This is the most famous zombie death in the entire film classic that is Dawn of the Dead (1978). Although banned in all forms in Britain, this tasty little death can be seen in the USA. However, in this day and age where the internet is massive, this scene can be found all over the place and be easily viewed which is to say the least, very handy. As Wooley goes "ape-shit" in the Swat Team invasion of a housing tenement, he proceeds to knock down the door of one apartment and using his shotgun, blast the head off a zombie inside. The head was originally a cast of Gaylen Ross' (Fran) head which was to be used in the original double suicide ending which would be later scrapped. This fake head was then filled with all the necessary ingredients, and to make the whole effect the most realistic, the head was actually blasted apart with a real shotgun on set! Needless to say, this is a classic zombie death from the masterpiece that is George A. Romero's finest triumph, Dawn of the Dead.

Dawn of the Dead: Truck Zombie
Another death from Dawn of the Dead (1978), hmmm, is it clear I love this film to death? Possibly. Anyway, when Roger, Peter and Steven go on a mission to block off the doors to the mall to make it a zombie-free zone, Roger is attacked whilst hot-wiring a truck for this purpose. As Peter catches up and turns round ready to follow Roger back to the mall, this zombie attacks Roger. At first grabbing hold of his leg, this zombie begins to clamber inside the truck and attempt to have Roger for lunch. Eventually, Peter reverses his truck back to the side of Roger's and comes to his rescue by blasting the brains out of this puss-brain. As Roger pushes the finally dead corpse out of the truck, he wipes off the blood and looks out onto the road, claiming he's "perfect baby, perfect."

Dawn of the Dead: Steven
Again, from the classic Dawn of the Dead, a main character, Steven, is transformed into a zombie when attacked by a hoard in an elevator. He is bitten and torn at and eventually turns inside the elevator only to come out and become at one with the other walking dead menaces. He also leads them all up towards the living space where they have stayed for the past few months to attempts and feed on the flesh of his friend and pregnant girlfriend. However, when they reach the top, Steven is the first to come through the door, and Peter quickly finishes him off with a single bullet to the head, blood spraying all over the white wall behind! Gore-tastic!

Day of the Dead: Y-Section Zombie
Now, from the sequel to Dawn of the Dead, comes Day of the Dead (1985). George A. Romero's mini-epic was previously cut many times for budget purposes and so the story had to change significantly. But, with Tom Savini at hand to use his wizard-like skills to produce the special effects, not all was lost. In this scene, Dr Logan proceeds to experiment on a zombie who has had all their guts disconnected. When Dr Logan is then giving Sarah the scientifica mumbo-jumbo behind it all, the zombie behind him breaks loose of one of it's restraints and lunges for Sarah from it's lying down position, subsequently dropping its guts all over the floor in blood-letting fashion. Dr Logan then picks up his trusty drill and rams it through the zombie's skull, blood spattering all across the zombie's head. Marvellous.

Braindead: A Whole Hoard of Zombies
This is the most gore-filled film in all history. Peter Jackson's 1992 gore-fest Braindead shows how comedy and gore are a terrific mix. In this scene near the end of the film, Lionel must despatch of an entire hallway full of zombies. But with what? Well, the answer is simple. The good old lawn-mower! As he bursts into the room, the engine revving away, the zombies advance on him, but are too stupid and subsequently mangle their limbs and heads in the rotary blades. Several gallons of blood was used per second for this sequence, and by the end of it all, Lionel was left skidding about in a blood covered hallway as he wades through limbs and other body parts.

The Evil Dead: Linda
Although this scene is until now, previously unseen due to heavy cuts throughout it in Britain due to the old days of the BBFC, it is now fully restored for a new release later in 2001! This scene from The Evil Dead (1982) shows that this is a true gore classic. Here, Ash fights his zombi-fied girlfriend, Linda by whacking her with a large piece of timber, wrestling with her and finally, chopping her head off with a spade as she comes flying towards him. What is left after this battle is a severed, screaming head on the ground and a blood-gushing body that struggles with Ash, splattering him with blood! For the most part, this battle and ending to the scene was edited and cut-up badly, but now, in the more liberal times of the BBFC, the film was re-submitted and is pending Uncut release here in the UK! Whoopie!

The Evil Dead: Cheryl
Another classic scene from the cult movie The Evil Dead in which Ash's sister, Cheryl, finally dies after becoming one of the zombi-fied demons throughout the film. After Ash struggles with both the evil Cheryl and Scott, he throws the Necronomicon onto the fire, thus stopping the demons in their tracks where they begin to rot in seconds and fall apart. Cheryl subsequently crumbles as worms bulge from her head and as giant evil arms explode from her stomach and spinal area. After being gutted by the evil presence, Cheryl then falls to the floor as her flesh peels off until only a skull remains to be shattered on the wooden floor of the cabin. A true classic zombie death from a true classic film. Bravo!
