Chapter 18

Gwen rolled over and looked at the clock, it was 2:30 in the afternoon.  She turned to look over at Nick and saw his eyes gazing at her.  She smiled and leaned towards him, placing a light kiss on his lips.  She pulled back and said, "Good Morning."

He smiled at her and said, "Thank you."

"Thank me?  For what?"

"Being here, being you."

"Well, I am glad I could be here for you.  I wish you would have told me that something was the matter.  I know I didn't call and I am sorry.  I just wanted to figure everything out before I talked to you."

"And did you?"

"Yes," she said as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him close to her.

"OK, that's all I needed to hear," he said, picking up her hand kissing it gently, knowing that she had called off the wedding because the familiar diamond was missing from her left hand.  "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, it actually went better than I thought it would," she looked at him with a teasing grin.  "Would you like to know what happened?"

"I didn't want to push the issue, but if you want to tell me, yes I would like to know."

"Well, I after I talked to you I realized how hurt you were.  I really thought everything over.  I know I don't belong with Collin, you made me realize that.  I decided that I had to tell him in person, I owed him that much." Nick nodded and she continued, "So I flew to Dallas last weekend and told him my truth."

"Which was?"

"Basically that things aren't going to work out and that it wasn't fair to either of us to marry eachother and that we wouldn't be happy.  He was upset, which I expected, but he also didn't seem totally suprised.  They worst part was telling our families, especially his."

"How did it go with your family?"

"My parents were shocked.  I think Daddy could care less because he doesn't seem to think that anyone is good enough for mr.  My Mom knew that there was more to it than the fact that I am not in love with Collin, she has known that.  She asked me who had shown me that there was more.  I tried to hide it but she saw right through me.  I told her about us."

"Us...as in me and you?"

"Yeah, she says she can't wait to meet you.  She thought that nobody would ever steal my heart because I am so independent.  She is proud of me and impressed with you."

"I stole your heart?"

"Yes, I have missed you like crazy these past couple of weeks.  I know what you were talking about when you said that I should love the man I spend my life with someone I feel like I can't live without."

He cut her off "Do you feel like you can't live without me?"

"Pretty much, it has been hard to even breathe without you in my life.  Nick, my life would never be the same if you are not in it.  This has been very hard for me, realizing that I need someone other than me.  I know I want to be with you, but you just have to be patient with me.  I will be here when you need me but please understand that this is new to me and I still need my space."

Nick was suprised at her confession, but happy.  "I am glad that you feel that way,  I feel the same way.  I wish I had known but I understand your reasons.  I will give you whatever space you need, which shouldn't be hard considering my fucked up schedule.  I am very emotional and I don't know what came over me.  I just hadn't heard from you since our fight that night and I was worried that we would never talk again.  I really do love you Gwen, I know it is soon but I can't help the was I feel." Nick looked down, lifted Gwen's face to his.

"I can't either." She leaned towards him and kissed him deeply.  The kiss took them both over.  Before either one of them knew it, Nick was on top of Gwen about to enter her body.  She gazed up at him and smiled, "I love you Nicky."

He returned her smile and slowly entered her.  They both let out a heavy sigh, they had missed eachother, both needing re-affirmation that what they shared was real, and they did just that, for the rest of the afternoon and all through the night.
