Plans had been made for Britt to spend Halloween with Nick. She was preparing to fly out when Jordan came into her room with a new plan hatched.

“So, I know that you are supposed to go and visit Nick this weekend...” Jordan started.

“But...what are you trying to talk me into Jordy? You know Nicky will kill me if I skip out on him.” Britt replied, trying to hid the interest that she had in Jordan’s ‘plan’.

“Ok...here’s the deal. My friend Gavin is having a huge party in Dallas this weekend. He rented out a warehouse and promises fun. 100% costume and good music and drinks,” Jordan paused, trying to see if Britt was game, it was written all over her face so she continued, “And ya see, I was thinking that this could be pretty fun. I think that you need to tell Spanky that its time you took a weekend off from being his girl.”

Sighing, Britt replied, “Well, it sounds really cool, and actually, I am worn out from hopping planes every weekend, but I don’t think that excuse would work considering that we would be driving to Austin.”

“Hey, you and Nick’s deal was that you didn’t have to come every weekend, and, the reason being that you may have something to do. And Britt, I can see it all over your face, you want to do this. Just tell him that something came up last minute and you really want to do this. We leave Friday.”

“But Halloween is his favorite holiday,” Britt said as she watched Jordan walk out of her room. After seeing her turn around with her mischevious smile, Britt shook her head and laid back on the bed, knowing that Jordan wasn’t going to take no for an answer, but also knowing that this was something she wouldn’t say no to.

After working up the nerve to call Nick, Britt sat on her bed calmly and dialed his familiar cell phone number. Ringing only twice, she heard his tired voice on the other end of the line, “Hello?”

“Hey sweetie...” Britt said softly.

“Mmmhhmm,” Nick replied, obviously awaken by the phone, “What are you doing up this late? Its almost 2 am.”

“I know, I just needed to talk to you.”

“Don’t worry about this weekend, I have it all set up, the guys are going to-”

Cutting him off, Britt said, “Actually, that is what I needed to talk to you about - this weekend.”

Suddenly sounding more awake, Nick spoke up, “Why do I think I am not going to like this?”

“Because you probably won’t. Nicky...I am not coming this weekend.”

Silence was all that could be heard. After minutes, Nick spoke up, “Well, I knew this would happen sooner or later...but I guess I expected it later. I thought that things were ok for us, ya know finally getting back to normal and all. Why don’t you want to be with me this weekend?”

“Baby, its not that I don’t want to be with you, its just that a friend of Jordan’s is having this party in Dallas this weekend and she really wants me to go.”

“Well, I really want you to be here. I have been looking forward to this, we have had this planned for 3 weeks, you know Halloween is my favorite holiday,” anger was beginning to show, Nick had wanted to hide it but decided that he had a right to be mad, she was flaking on him last minute.

“Bottom line is that I am going with Jordan, that is where I want to be and you are just going to have to deal with it.”

Nick didn’t say another word, he could hear Britt trying to reason with him but she wasn’t listening, she told him she loved him, he didn’t care. He was disappointed and upset. He hung the phone up without another word.
