*WHOLE STORY* The music playing on the radio filled he quietness in her room. This particular song was fitting her mood perfectly. She sat staring at the picture she held in her hands. Why, of all people she wondered, was it him that she was feeling this way about. Her own best friend. She thought back to the time when this all started. The day she wrote the first letter. That day almost 2 and a half years ago.

Kimberly had written her first fan letter .She thought it was the stupidest thing she had ever written. But in fear of only making it sound worse, she mailed her first attempt. A few months later, she found a surprise in her mailbox. It was the letter that led to her most treasured friendship. The one she shared with the one and only Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys.

Looking at his picture, her mind ran wild with indescribable thoughts. She began talking aloud as she asked the same question over and over again. How did I fall in love with you? She knew the answer though. It was everything about him. His personality, physical appearance, everything, including the few flaws she knew he had. She though back to when she had first met Nick. She knew it was one of the happiest days of her life .She was meeting her idol. And of course she loved him at the time. Who of his fans didnt? But it was different now. At first all she wanted was at least his friendship. She got that. Now she was afraid that if he knew how she really felt, the special kind of love she felt for him now, that she would lose him forever. She knew she couldnt let that happen. She wouldnt let that happen. He stood in the doorway watching her. He wondered if he had heard her correctly. She loves me? He was sure that couldnt be what she said. It wouldve been too easy that way. He knew he was going to have to go about getting her as more than a friend in a special way. A way in which he knew he wouldnt lose her. Hiya Nick! Kim said as she seen him walking towards her. They were going to spend the day at the beach. She knew it was going to be very hard to spend the day with him and try to hide her true feelings. But she also knew that she couldnt totally brush him off all the time. If she did that, she would make him wonder what was wrong. And she didnt want that to happen. She was going to play it as cool around him as possible. They usually flirt a lot when together. She decided that she was going to not do it as much but enough to make him not ask questions. Nick ran up to her and gave her a hug and kissed her sweetly on the cheek. She loved it when he did things like this. She knew he only thought of it as a friendly gesture. But she often wished that someday it would be more. Much more. Instead of pondering over things that would never be, she decided to make the most of the moment. Hey sweetie! You almost ready? he asked her. Yeah, let me just get my bag out of my room. She replied. She walked out of the room knowing his eyes were on her. Again she thought impossible things. A few minutes later she ran down the stairs to meet him at her front door. He held it open for her as they walked out towards his car. He opened the door for her so she could get in the car. God, he is just so sweet! she thought to herself. He ran around to get into his side of the car. So you want to go straight to the beach or do something before? he asked her. She thought for a few minutes before replying, Nah, we should just head to the beach. Make sure we get a nice spot. Dont you think? He looked at her and smiled, What ever you want my dear! They drove to the park in silence. They just listened to the music, knowing they had all day to talk. They had taken the entire day to themselves today. When they reached the parking lot, Nick asked her what she wanted to do first, swim or go sit in the sun for a while. He was hoping she said to swim. He couldnt wait to see her in her bathing suit. She answered him but he was to lost in his own thoughts to hear her. Im sorry. What did you say? he asked her. I said, lets go swim for a bit. Then we can sit in the sun and dry off. He loved the idea and said so to her. He watched her walk towards the sandy area to find a spot to set up for the day. He loved watching her. Even if she wasnt doing anything special. Just to look at her. Her outer beauty a perfect combination with her inner beauty. He wished he could say she was his. Someday he thought, someday. She had a spot all picked out just as he started to walk towards her. She took out the blanket she had brought along and was trying to spread it out herself. He came up beside her and said, Here let me help you with that. She turned and looked at him getting lost in his eyes for a moment before she snapped out of it. Great! This is exactly what you werent supposed to do today Kimberly Ann! she silently yelled at herself. She moved over to let him help spread it out. After they laid the blanket on the ground, they both sat on it looking out at the water. Okay, so lets hit the water, she said to him. She looked at him once before she put her hands to the bottom hem of her shirt. He had no idea she was already wearing her bathing suit and wondered what she was doing. He watched her silently as she took of her shirt. He couldnt help but stare at her and wish he were removing that shirt and for other reasons. God, this is going to be a long day, he said quietly to himself. What? Kim asked. She had heard him say something was wasnt sure what he said. Oh nothing. I was just thinking out loud again! was Nicks reply. She then stripped off her shorts and ran for the water. He quickly removed his outer clothing to reveal his swimming trunks and joined her. When he reached the water he went straight for her to dunk her under. She knew what was coming and tried to run from him. As she turned to run, a small wave came in knocking her off of her feet. He was right behind her to catch her as she fell. Looking right into her eyes, he was just about to kiss her. He bent his head towards hers before he realized what he was about to do and pulled away. He helped her up and walked away from her as fast as he could. She ran up behind him, calling his name. Nick! Nick, wait up! she yelled after him. But he still continued to walk in the opposite direction from her. Running to catch up to him, she laced her arms around his waist so he would stop. Let me go he said to her. Nick, what is the matter with you? she asked him. Nothing, he said, just let it be. She looked at him very hurt. How could he be acting this way towards her? Did he know and was about to walk out of her life? She left him alone and walked back to sit on the blanket. He watched her walk away and knew he had hurt her. What am I doing? he asked himself. I dont want to do this to her. He walked to her. He silently sat on the blanket beside her. Sitting there for a few minutes letting the silence filled by the sound of crashing waves on the shore surround them; they didnt say a word. Finally, Nick looked at her. He couldnt do this anymore. He needed to know. He had to know. He was going to make his move. She thought to herself how stupid she was to ever think they could be more than just friends could. She always went and got herself hurt. She felt his eyes on her and turned to look at him. She could tell by the look in his eyes that something was going to happen. She right away assumed that he was going to tell her their friendship was over. Nick, I.. she started. At the same time he said, Kim, there is.. Knowing the other had something to say they both kept silent waiting for the other to finish. Nick told her to finish. Nick, I am sorry. I didnt mean to push you before. I should have just let you go. She hoped this would make things better. She knew she couldnt lose him now. He listened to her and knew he had to make things right. He could hear the desperation in her voice as she spoke to him. He knew it was now or never. He had to make the move. He started to say something when she moved closer to him and just put her arms around his chest. Nick, I cant lose you, she said. Not knowing what else to do, he wrapped his arms around her. Kim, youre never going to lose me, he answered back to her .She lifted her head to look him in the face. This was it. Looking into her blue eyes, seeing her mouth so close to his, he knew now was the time. He slowly moved his head towards hers. Finally. It was happening. She thought she was dreaming as his lips met hers. They shared the sweetest first kiss. After they realized what was happening, they pulled away from the other. They both looked confused. Looking for the others reaction towards what had happened. He was the first one to talk. Kim, I dont know.. he started. Sssshhhh she said as she put her fingers over his lips to silence him. Whatever you do, do not apologize. He looked at her puzzled. Do you know how long I wished you would do that? And not just in a friendly way either? He looked at her shocked. What exactly do you mean by that? She looked at him as if to ask if she really needed to explain herself. Instead of replying to him, she put her hands on his face and brought her face to his to meet him in another gentle kiss. This time when they broke the kiss, neither pulled as far away as last time. Instead they looked into each others eyes. Nick looked at her with more love than he knew he felt for her. Kim was the first to speak this time. Nickolas Gene Carter, I think I am in love with you! He took a moment to digest this before he replied back, Kimberly, I know I am in love with you!! They spent most of the day at the beach. They cuddled in the sunshine, and shared many light kisses. They talked almost the entire time about how they couldnt believe they both felt the same way and neither was willing to show or tell the other how he felt. All in the fear of losing each others friendships. After that day, they had a long happy healthy relationship, because they shared the special bond of being best friends first.
