Nick Stathopoulos holds a BA and an LLB and is one of Australia's premier artist/illustrators. His creative endeavours encompass many disciplines.

Born in 1959, Nick is the winner of a mainstream Penguin television award for art direction, and several (8) Ditmars (Aust. SF awards) for book cover art.

He has painted some of the best cover art in Australian science fiction, produced extensive box art and games graphics for the Strategic Studies group, and worked for Hanna Barbera and the Disney Corporation as a background artist. He has also written a small amount of science fiction.

In 1999 he was nominated for an international Hugo Award for his professional SF art, and was nominated for a British SF Association Award for his cover to the anthology DREAMING DOWN UNDER.

Nick is one of the most sought-after illustrators of book covers. Award winning authors whose covers have been graced by Nick's work include SF favourites Terry Dowling and Jack Dann, and young adult fiction phenomenon John Marsden.

In 2003 he was one of the finalists for the Archibald Art Prize for portraiture with his painting of Mr Squiggle and his creator, Norman Hetherington. His portrait of esteemed film critic David Stratton is a finalist in the 2008 Archibalds.

His portrait of  chilfdren's book Shaun Tan is currently a finalist in the 2008 Doug Moran Portrait Prize, touring nationally.

Other celebrity sitters include TV personality John Safran, photographer Lewis Morley, diva Paul Capsis, celebrity crooner Barry Crocker, and musician and academic Winsome Evans.

A staunch advocate of artist's rights, he is a past president of the Sydney branch of the Illustrator's Association of Australia, and has also served as the Association's legal advisor.

He exhibits paintings, drawings, and sculptures at the Kerrie Lowe Gallery in Newtown, where his last show 'CLOUD DIARY' was a great success.

Nick is currently working on a feature film based on the life of the famous aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira. He has written the treatment, and will be recreating many of Albert's watercolours in his capacity as art-director. The film will be shot in the actual locations where Albert was raised and painted.
