Nick Kelin first made an appearance on The Bill on the 16th Sepetember 1999.
In the Episode 'Intergrity'.
Nick joined Sun Hill in the summer of 1999, transferring from Ladbrooke Grove. A slightly nutty, adorable character, he immediately clashed with Dale Smith on both a personal and professional level, and the two remain at odds, providing some of the best scenes in the show. Nick is a sharp officer, and good at his job - when he makes the effort! - despite his admission that he was kicked out of school long before he even had the chance to take any GCSEs. He sometimes has a pretty lax attitude to policework, and freely admits that he is happier working his part-time job as a DJ in the local clubs. However, he will go to extreme lengths to catch out the bad guys, including a racist DS from Barton Street, and a Rwandan war criminal. When he first arrived at Sunhill, Nick was nearly caught smoking dope, something he sees no wrong in, despite several clashes with Smiffy over the subject. To Nick, being happy is more important than upholding law and order, but he will back-up his work colleagues to the full limit of his abilities. Nick tends to stick up for the underdog, which he feels stems from his Jewish background. This means he gets a bit of stick from the rest of the relief over his unbiased views on any member of the community, but as Nick never seems to stop talking, any insults flung his way just get tossed right back. In all, Nick is a rather sweet, but pretty directionless, character. He can be laid-back almost to the point of ditzyness, but is hyperactive, fun-loving, and a solid and dependable officer.
