Markandonata

In the 17th century two brothers acquired all the land around the present day hamlet of Markandonata and built themselves a house. Their names were Markos and Adonis, hence the name. The present patchwork of fields, olive groves and vineyards dates from that time. Agriculture is still the main occupation of this peaceful backwater, despite its proximity to Fiskardo.  A traditional way to relax
A local sunset There are many fabulous walks in this area, on the old bridleways through the woods and down to the coast. Old footpaths, some set between massive drystone walls, (it has been said that the ancient craft of dry stone walling was first developed in the Ionian Islands) lead through fields and woods or connect with the surrounding villages.
The village of Manganos, with a well-stocked corner shop, greengrocer, and taverna is within easy reach. A hidden footpath, leads to the near-by village of Antipata with its large plateia where children play on summer evenings. Opposite is a picturesque country taverna, where one can indulge in mouth-watering dishes. What could be more delicious than a rich stew of vegetables, garden herbs, lashings of garlic and liberal splashes of extra virgin olive oil, all washed down with a bottle of local Robola wine? We offer a variety of superb properties in and around Markandonata, all characterized by their peaceful surroundings and picturesque views.
