Nick Talks About Each Song
11. The Reason (Featuring Colin Greenfield)
"This song probably means more to me than any song I have ever written.  This is the only song so far that I have written along with someone else.  My two best friends, Colin Greenfield and Nate Morrison, wrote this song with me.  I love those two guys as much as you can love a friend.  We were just sitting around the house one day, playing around on the guitar.  Then we started singing some worship songs.  And then while we were just talking I started playing this pick, and then a strum, and boom!, we started writing this worship song.
The song itself is extremely pretty.  This song states that the main reason we sing is for God's glory and his worship, not our own pride.  It is the kind of song you
12. Take Control
"'Take Control' is definately a song from God.  It was written totally opposite of the way I usually write songs.  I was sitting there worshiping God in my dormroom one day, and God laid it on my heart to write some things down.  So I wrote the words to this song, not even expecting it to be a song.  And then God told me to grab my guitar, so I did, and right away I started playing this song.  There was no dreaming up a tune, or fiddling around with a guitar pick or strum, it was just straight up given to me.  And how I definately knew it was from God, was I had already sang it about 6 or 7 times, and then the message finally hit me, and it ministered to me.
The message to this song is about letting God Take Control in our lives.  It is about how we bring God more than just words in a song, or tunes from our lips, but that we bring him everything we have when we worship him.  I know that this song is definately a good song to worship with."
can just sit back and listen to all day with the mandolin and guitar playing."
13. Sound Of Your Name
"This song is the third of the three part worship section of this CD.  I decided to put all three worship songs together, so that if someone is wanting to just plug in some worship music, they don't have to bounce around on the CD to find them, they can just play these 11-13.
'Sound Of Your Name' is another awesome worship song.  It is very laid back and mellow, but the words are powerful.  Jesus's name is VERY powerful.  Phillipians 2:9 calls it the '
name above all names' and 2:10-11 states that 'at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.'
14. Run To You (Tribute to GiG)
"'Run To You' is a song that we used to play in GiG that walks through every member of the band.  It started out when I was writing the song that I was going through my morning routine, but I ran out of time to write the
second verse because it was time for church.  After church that day I sang what I had written so far to my brother and dad.  Now at the time I was living with Colin, and this boy is the hardest person in the world to get out of bed.  So my dad joked that since I was singing about my morning routine, that I should go ahead and sing something about Colin still being in bed.  Of course you don't joke around me and not think I am going to do it, so I wrote the first line of the second verse with 'Colin's still in bed and he won't get up, but he's singing with me anyways.'  Then I just had to go through the rest of the band members.
This song is just out and out fun.  So we had to have fun while recording it.  I hate to burst the
bubble of everyone that has heard the song, but the phone call is staged.  But you couldn't think that I was going to make a CD and not have at least one funny kink in the system.  That was probably the funnest thing to record out of the entire CD.
I wanted to put this song on the CD, mainly as a tribute to the guys in GiG.  We went through alot together, and grew to be good freinds together.  I just hope those guys know how much I really care for them."
15. Only God Knows (Featuring Ivy Wilkin)
"This would definately be my favorite song on this CD.  This song was a gift to my wonderful girlfriend, Ivy Wilkin.  This song definately means a lot to me, mainly because it is really hard for me to pour my heart out, but I can in song.  This song turned out above and beyond anything I could have imagined.
Ivy actually flew up to South Dakota from New Mexico to sing the background vocals for this song and 'The Reason'.  We wanted to get that feeling that I was actually singing it to her, so we did a Live-Cut, one time playing and singing recording.  Surprisingly I got through it with veryfew mistakes.  And then we went back over it with a bass guitar to give it that "unplugged" feeling.  This is the type of song you can play for all your girlfriends or boyfriends out there that mean anything to you.  I know Ivy means more than the world to me, so no better deserving than for her to have this song."
