Tasty... How does it taste?

each donut has its own taste and target. Some people dislike apple fritters, whereas others find them their favorite. I will address each with an open mind of both. The donuts made the change from frying in lard to frying in peanut oil. The taste is slightly different, but most probably didn't notice, but appriciate the health benefit.

Apple Fritter:
Listed first because it is my favorite. This is the best apple fritter I have ever tasted. It has a variety of ingrediants, which I do not wish to divulge. They are quite large for the price too (under a dollar). A circular donut of about six to eight inches in diamter, an apple fritter is not as sweet as typical donuts. It uses a sour dough instead of the traditional donut filling. It is mixed with apple jelly, cinnamon, and a few other ingridents and fried. It usually has a darker complection and the edges are crunchy, which some people love. The inside is usually doughy and depending upon how much jelly, dry or very moist; the latter being better in my opinion.

Glazed Donut:
Tradional donut dough, that is cut into the shape they will be, and set to rise. Once risen, they are fried. These taste quite yummie and upon your visit, if you can get fresh off the glazing rack donuts. If none are avaliable, wait 4 minutes and you can get them so fresh, that merely touching them will smush them and leave your finger very warm with glazing. Worth every cent.

Chocolate donuts:
traditional donut dough that is cut into shape and set to rise. Upon rising, they are fried. Instead of being glazed, they are dipped into chocolate. The chocolate is very rich and has a good milk to dark chocolate taste. It resembles the texture of a fudge icing, and upon touching my tounge gets an A+ for taste.

Turnovers:
The turnovers are made of a traditional donut dough that is rolled thin and filled with a variety of fillings (see above). The texture of the dough is very soft, which is pleasant to eat. The fillings are usually very good and not too sweet. The turnover is topped with a glazing.

Rosebud:
A traditional dough that is made into a circle, much like a cinnamon role, but one edge is cut so that it flares. (I'll have to get a picture of this). Since the filling is still visible, you see a flower looking pastry. It tastes very good and has a sweet flavor: more so than normal. Be wary for those who aren't fond of sweets. Since the layers are thin, the rasberry / or strawberry filling is prevelant, but never too much. The thin layers also provide a good taste for the dough. The whole concotion is glazed - this is where the more sweet than normal taste comes from. I rank this donut just beside the apple fritter.

Atmosphere:

Beside the great donuts, Pete's Son's Tasty Donuts provides a great comfortable small town atmosphere. Grab a cup of coffee and sit down with your donuts and absorb the small town life... its just great. The owners are extremely friendly and will usually work with you on what kind of donuts you like and they will try to make them and see how they sell.
