SYNOPSIS
- After the unsuccessful Pyar Tune Kya Kiya the producer-director jodi
of Ramgopal Varma and Rajat Mukherji returns with a psycho-thriller ‘Road’.
The film, starring Varma favorites – Vivek Oberoi, Antara Mali and Manoj
Bajpai – is another attempt by Rajat Mukherji to move away from Bollywood
stereotypes.
Road tells the story of two youngsters Arvind (Vivek Oberoi) and Laxmi (Antara
Mali) who are madly in love with each other. So much so that they decide to
leave their respective homes after their parents object to their romance.
Uncertain
of what future holds for them Arvind and Laxmi elope together with their
necessary belongings. They hit the road to a new city where they plan to start
their lives afresh. One the way they come across a lone hitchhiker named Babu (Manoj
Bajpai) and give him a ride in their vehicle.
Soon, as Babu’s eccentricities begin to unravel the duo suspect that they are
in company of a psycho. What happens next forms the crux of the story. (Apna Ka

Finally I saw Road. Really wanted to see it for the starcast -Vivek, Antari, and Manoj. The storyline didn't interest me too much. Mainly cause it is a remake of Breakdown with Kurt Russell. Yes, another movie remake. I don't mind the movie remakes as long as the movie is good. It's just that I would like to see something original...if that word still exist. LOL.
I
didn't think much of Vivek when I first heard him. Didn't find him that good
looking either. But he surprise me in Company with his excellent acting. He
wasn't that bad looking as I thought he would be in the pics that I have seen
him in...but still, he didn't make an impact on me like Arjun did (who else
would? lol) or even Priyanshu (I know I like Rakesh but you can't really say he
"acted great" in Tum Bin). In Company, at times, he overshadowed Ajay.
He was the very few newcomers that I think did a good job acting in their debut.
Hrithik is a good actor too but he made his debut with a commerical film like
KNPH which some anti-Duggu people still don't like him cause he's overrated (but
not right now anymore). Some people think Vivek is the next Manoj Bajpai because
Manoj made his debut in Satya too but he played a different type of role just
like Vivek did in Company. So after watching Company, I was looking forward to
seeing him again but this time in Road. After watching Road, all I can say is
Vivek looks HOT...I never thought of him as good looking but I love the stubble
look. He just had a different look to him and I liked it. His acting was also
good but not as great as Company.
I
always liked Antara Mali since her debut Mast. She was so cute. Then she came
out in Khiladi 420 opposite Akshay Kumar but as the "bad Akki's"
girlfriend. I was like wow...she looks great. She didn't have much acting to do
in the movie but had good chemistry with Akki. Then with her next film Company,
I was stun. She made the same impact on me like Urmila did with Satya. Both
girls were deglamourize for the roles and did an excellent job acting. Since
Urmila's great performance in Satya, she has become my fourth fave actress after
Kajol, Madhuri, and Preity Zinta, resepctively. And after watching Antara in
Company, she became one of my fave newcomers after Bipasha Basu. Antara still
delivers her fine performance in Road. However, this time she has a more
glamorous role. That's okay as long as she can act. She also looks stunning and
lost lots of weight too. Some scenes she reminds you of Urmila but that could
the image that Ram Gopal Verma has on his ladies.
Manoj
Bajpai is the highlight of Road. He is the best thing in the movie. He is a very
underrated actor too. Since his debut in Satya, I knew that he will make an
impact in the industry. He does it again in Road. He stills the limelight from
the other two leads - Vivek & Antara. His facial expressions are excellent
too. There is nothing negative that I can say about him.
The storyline to Road is nothing new as said before. Road is not a great movie and it is not a bad movie. The fact remains that there were some scenes that dragged and were unnecessary like the song Pehli Nazaar Mein. It was cute to watch but could have been deleted. Plus the whole little "love affair" that Manoj had for Antara was kinda funny too.
Overall the movie is worth watching for the performances.
