SYNOPSIS -  India is a land of a billion people, 60 percent of whom are living in over 500,000 villages spread around the country.  Despite the best efforts of the Indian Rural Department about 87,000 of these villages to this date do not have electricity.  "Mumbai Se Aaya Mere Dost" takes place in one such village.

The film deals with a month in the life of Kanji (Abhishek Bachchan) whose innocent gift to his grandfather's recently electrified village results in laugh out loud humor, which, then, sparks a power struggle and ends up with laugh out loud humor.  The modern world takes over the lives of these villages, which had been alien to them so far.

The film is about the old and the new, the rural and the post - modern.  At the core of the film is a simple drama of the heart, enriched with acute observations of village psychology, an acurate portrayal of the little known aspects of Indian culture.

"Mumbai Aya Se Mera Dost" was a film that was suppose to break or make Abhishek.  Critics kept saying how different it was going to be.  Sure, it could have been....but it wasn't.  The beginning was different, a new direction...then the story was so predictable after Abhi and Lara's forbidden love came out.  I just wish Abhi the best in choosing his future coming films.  He does a good job in all his films.  It's just that his films are not worth watching and/or keeping.

Lara was really wasted in the film.  She looked gorgeous!  She really can dance.  I wonder if the Miss Universe are cursed for only doing sexy dance numbers.  She has a sexy dance number in her forthcoming flick "Khakee."  Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 1994, had several films but had more famous dance numbers and supporting roles than Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai.  I hope Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000, doesn't go that same route because Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra has more films coming her way.  They both starred together in "Andaaz" but Priyanka walked away with the fame (but she deserved it).

Definitely worth a miss.  The songs didn't grab my attention to listen to but they are nice to watch.  Just watch this film for Lara's sexy dances and Abhi's cuteness.  Otherwise, you're not missing much.
