Release Date – November 15, 2002

SYNOPSIS -  Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar is the story of a successful Indian-American businessman Ranchodlal Patel (Paresh Rawal) and his bubbly daughter Dr. Ritu Patel (Kim Sharma).

Ranchodlal Patel is a shrewd hotel owner who migrated from Gujarat to Edison, New Jersey. He has changed a lot with times, adopted the language and mannerisms of the West and now fondly calls himself Roger Patel.

Patel is a doting and possessive father who wants his two beautiful daughters (Kim Sharma and Toral Mehta) to marry an ideal man who, he deems, must have 3Ps – 'a Professional Patel owning a Property'.

Patel’s elder daughter Ritu is a resident of New York Hospital. She has great regard for her father and cannot do anything that goes against his wishes.

Then comes along Sunder, an enterprising young man who runs a mobile restaurant in New York. Sunder falls head over heels in love with Ritu at the first sight. But Ritu doesn’t reciprocate his feelings, as he is a man of small dreams, contrary to the man that her father wants his son-in-law to be.

It doesn’t take Sunder much long to win over Ritu. Although Ritu too begins to love Sunder she remains wary of introducing him to her stubborn father. Her worst fears come true when her father meets Sunder and outrightly dismisses him, finding him totally opposite to what he wanted. Sunder is a cook, a Punjabi and without any property.

To mellow down her adamant father, Ritu plays the trump card and invites Sunder for a seven-day stay over at their luxurious mansion in New Jersey. Now Sunder has this singular opportunity to impress upon Patel. Will he succeed or not?

I was wondering when this movie ever going to release.  AVS TV has been playing the title song since the beginning of 2002.  Honestly, I didn't really care about the film.  Jimmy Shergill and Kim Sharma.  Both debuted in Mohabbatein but not together.  Jimmy was opposite Preeti Jhanigiani and Kim was opposite Jugal Hansraj.  So to see them again in a film together was kinda awkward for me.  Plus Kim is not the best actress.  She has a really annoying voice and her character Sanjana in Mohabbatein didn't add any highlights to her career.  Then one of my friends told me that he was going to be in the background in the movie so I was curious to see that.

Jimmy is a good actor but he hasn't played lead in a movie yet.  He's usually in the movie with another co-star like Mohabbatein (sharing the movie with Shahrukh Khank, Uday Chopra, and Jugal Hansraj), Dil Hai Tumhaara (Arjun Rampal had the lead role, Jimmy's character was mostly pointless in the movie), Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (Uday Chopra had the lead role).  However, he was the "lead" guy in Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar with Amisha Patel but it was a movie focusing on Amisha.  Anyone could have played Jimmy's role.  Then finally came Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar which was a very long delayed film.  The music of KHDBB was even introduced in the Aankhen DVD which was released back in January 2002.  Does Jimmy live up to the same "Karan" we saw him in Mohabbatein?  The answer is yes.  Jimmy is a good actor.  There is no doubt about it.  The problem is finding a good script for him.  He shines in all his movies but KHDBB is his movie all the way. His comedy is funny in the movie too

Kim Sharma was the less popular gal out of the Mohabbatein gang.  Preeti Jhangiani has gotten a lot of offers.  Shamita has disappeared but does special appearances cause she's a wonderful dancer like her sister Shilpa.  Most people didn't like Kim's character Sanjana in Mohabbatein or they didn't like her annoying voice.  I have to say that she just didn't click with me.  She's really pretty but something about her just didn't impress me.  I thought I'll give her a chance in KHDBB since she does have the lead role with Jimmy.  I thought it will be interesting to see them together.  After watching the film, wow, Kim has impress me.  She looks gorgeous in the movie and acts well too.  I must admit that Jimmy overshadowed her at least one of the Mohabbatein girls is going places.

Paresh Pawal is funny as usual.  When I found out he was in the movie as Kim's father.  I knew it would be a good movie.  The movie is a remake (yeah, remakes again!!  Bollywood never stops...hehehe) of Hollywood Hit film Meet The Parents with Ben Stiller.  When I first heard that Jimmy would play Ben.  I couldn't believe it.  I can't really imagine him doing comedy.  He did play his comedic role well in YZKS but he didn't have a big role so it interesting to see.

KHDBB wasn't an exact copy of Meet The Parents.  It does have similarities so Jimmy and Kim both did well.  The movie was sweet and good to watch.  The only downfall of the movie is that it is short and has a quick ending.

Overall, KHDBB is worth to watch.  The songs and acting are good to watch.
