Ek Chottisi Love Story

Starring – Manisha Koirala, Aditya Seal, Ranvir Shorey, Saroj Bhargav

Release Date – September 06, 2002

SYNOPSIS -   Director Shashilal Nair’s Ek Chhoti Si Love Story, is based on the offbeat subject of an adolescent boy’s infatuation with his neighbor next door.

The film is the story of a curious teenager Aditya (played by Aditya Seal) who has been left under the care of his grandmother by his career-conscious parents. Alone and bored, Aditya spends his time training his telescope on a young and buxom girl Manisha (Manisha Koirala) living in a flat right opposite him.

Soon Aditya’s hobby turns into infatuation as he begins to follow her movements closely. He feels sexually drawn towards her when he sees her coming out of her bath, her hair dripping wet. He feels jealous when he catches her making love with her boyfriend (Ranvir Shourie).

All this while Manisha is unaware of her secret admirer. And when the young boy musters up the courage and speaks his heart out to Manisha she takes it in her stride and gives him a little teaser on adolescent love.

Although the film does not contain any nudity or vulgar scenes it does highlight Manisha’s sensuality. The subject is novel but without much substance. The pace of narrative is slow and Shashilal’s sense of presentation is stylish but not innovative.

Above all, the touchy Piano leitmotif in the background throughout the film creates the right impact and brings about the associative emotions in viewers.

The film had a lot of controversies and that's what made me want to see it even more.  Mainly it was done just to publicize the film and make a profit out of it.

Manisha looked really bad in the movie.  She has gained a lot of weight.  Her clothes were mix matched and showed her off too much skin.  I don't know what happened because she looked good in Company. You can tell she is aging when there is one scene with a close up of her.  She has many wrinkles around her eyes.  She still has that cute baby face but with the weight gain and aging, she looks really bad in the movie.  On top of that, her makeup was not good either.  She was annoying in the movie because of her character.  I don't know what has happened to Manisha.  She used to be a really good actress.  My favorite movies of hers are Khamoshi: The Musical, Bombay, 1942 - A Love Story, and Gupt.  I hope she will pick back up soon.  If we are to see more movies like hers in Ek Chottisi Love Story then her career is down.

The movie was so boring and dragged so much.  It didn't have a purpose either.  The acting wasn't good.  There were little dialogues in the movie.  There is no enthusiasm in the acting.  I can see how the film became a hit.  It is because the film is low budget so it didn't cost that much movie.  Plus because of the controversies, a lot of people wanted to see the movie.

It is a movie you can pass up because nothing is worth watching in the film.  With movies like this, I wish it had a good soundtrack so you can at least watch the songs!
