SYNOPSIS -  Armaan as the title suggests is a film about individual hopes and dreams and the extent to which a son goes to fulfill his father’s dreams.

The story is set against the backdrop of a hospital owned b Dr. Sinha – a philanthropist who refuses to grow either cynical or indifferent, despite having to struggle with the harsh reality of death and disease, daily.  His dream remains to run a state of the hospital in which patients may be given indiscriminate treatment.

Akash, his son is an equally devoted doctor, who remains duty- bound to both his profession and his father.

Enter Soniya Kapoor, a rich, arrogant young woman, who is used to getting things done her way.   Beneath her veneer of defensive sensitivity however is an individual who has shades of compassion.  However, since Soniya believes that no one can ever truly love her for who she is, she decides that since Akash is the man for her,  she can latch on to him by literally ‘buying’ his love.  Through a financial agreement.  This agreement states that on marrying Soniya, her father Gulshan will help finance the hospital project.

Aakash is thus faced with an emotional dilemma in which he is forced to choose between his love for fellow doctor, Neha and his duty towards fulfilling his father’s dream.

The story leads to an unusual climax, in which the characters are forced to tread the fine line between extremes of duty, devotion and finally even emotional sanity.  However, there is a resolution in which difficult choices must be make, keeping in mind everyone’s best interests.

“ARMAAN” is a family drama that allows one to explore the intricacy of human relationships and exposes the vulnerability of individual in those relationships and the choices made by them.

Does Aakash fulfill his final duty towards his father ?  Or does he marry Neha instead ?  Does he marry Soniya and forsake his love for Neha ?  Does he find the courage to purpose his own dreams ?  These are the questions that will be answered in the course of the film.

First thing that comes to mind when I saw the previews....wow.  Amitach Bachchan is one of the best actors of all times.  Anil Kapoor is also a very good actor and on my top 5 list.  Great to see Gracy Singh back after "Lagaan."  She took a very long break.  She looks beautiful from the previews, glamourized, and wearing Western outfits. Preity Zinta, one very underrated actress, is playing a supporting role and has a new look.

What I was disappointed in the film was how short Amitach's role was.  However, he always does well in his part. Anil is great in the movies.  You can always expect him to be great in his movies.  Gracy is awesome.  She portrays her character Neha really well and does well in the emotional scenes.  Preity overshines Gracy in some scenes because of her character.  She is very versatile and I hate her talent being wasted to dumb movies like "Farz" and "Prince No 1."

Storyline wise.  It was interesting.  However, it did take a downfall in the second half.  I thought it would be more of an emotional, dramatic movie.  Later it dragged and some parts becamse pointless.  The songs are not that great either.  The movie is definitely worth watching for the performances.  The movie may not be the best movie of 2003 but it is definitely worth watching.
