SYNOPSIS
- Being
a beauty queen opens the door of bollywood. Almost all beauty queen in India
have tried their hands on bollywood. Andaaz too will bring together two of the
most beautiful females (Miss World 2000 - Priyanka Chopra & Miss Universe
2000 - Lara Dutta) on the silver screen. Andaaz would be a critical film for
both of this beauties. Andaaz is the story of three people who believe in love
and know how to love, but don't know when to declare their love. Andaaz is about
Raj (Akshay Kumar) …Kaajal (Lara Dutta) …Jiya (Priyanka Chopra) Raj and
Kaajal are two inseperable childhood friends who nurture and stand by each other
through thick or thin. Their bonds only grow stronger and deeper with the years.
While Raj dreams of becoming pilot, Kaajal dreams that some day, a prince
charming will come her way and fly her into the clouds. Raj, totally in love
with Kaajal, wants to be that special person, and joins the Air Force. Raj
becomes an Air Force officer and realises his childhood dreams. Now all that's
left is to win his childhood love. On cloud nine, Raj returns home to propose to
Kaajal. But he's too late in declaring his love. Kaajal is getting married to
Karan Singhania (Aman Verma). Raj is broken hearted, left with nothing but her
memories and his shattered dreams. Wanting to forget his pain, he immerses
himself in work and is sent to South Africa for further training. Here he meets
Jiya a gorgeous and effervescent young girl. Jiya is smitten by the suave and
dynamic young officer. But Raj has shut himself in an ivory tower and prefers to
ignore her. Vivacious Jiya refuses to give up and with sheer audacity and
persistence succeeds in breaking through his reserve. They decide to get
married. And then in a dramatic turn of events, fate brings Raj and Kaajal face
to face again, unleashing a torrent of emotions. Andaaz is an extremely
emotional film that explores the various facets of love - friendship,
commitment, passion, devotion, and obsession...
Wow,
the two beauty queens in one movie!! I'm talking about the beauty queens
that won big titles. That's a first. Only
considering that both women won big titles that year - 2000. Lara Dutta
for Miss Universe and Priyanka Chopra for Miss World. I would have loved
to see the other two beauty queens who won the big titles in 1994 in a movie -
Sushmita Sen for Miss Universe and Aishwarya Rai for Miss World - but who knows
if that will happen. Too bad Aish didn't appear with Sush in "Tumko
Na Bhool Payenge Ka." Diya Mirza was in that movie but she won Miss
Asia-Pacific 1999.
First,
Mr. Khiladi. He's improving with his quality of films, from "Dhadkan"
to "Awara Paagal Deewana." Although his "Talaash" did
not do good, all stars go through that phase with one or more bad films.
"Andaaz," suprisely, is a hit, the biggest of the year so far.
The film has nothing new to offer. The storyline is overplayed. Akki,
at times, looked bored.
However, what makes the movie good are 3 reasons. 1 - Lara Dutta. 2 - Priyanka Chopra. 3 - Music. The movie had a lot of special moments...moments that leaves you feeling magical and loved.
Lara Dutta. Her debut film. She does a good job. She is very beautiful but in the movie, she had too much makeup in some scenes and didn't look her best (due to her character's emotional state). Her character is pretty hard to do for someone who just started.
Priyanka
Chopra is actually the show stealer. She looks gorgeous. Maybe it's
her character and how it was portrayed. She had on beautiful outfits and
looked great. Her makeup was not overdone like Lara's but that is none of
their faults. On top of looking great, she acts just as good. She
was good in her debut film "Hero - Love Story of a Spy" but that movie
was clearly Preity Zinta's movie all the way. Priyanka still does good in
her short role but I am glad to see her fully use her acting skills in "Andaaz."
Storyline, of course, is nothing new but no movies nowadays are. I don't mind remakes but if the story leaves a magical moment for you, then it's a good one and worth while. The songs are very well choreographed and great to listen to also. My favorite one to watch is "Shalala Baby." The movie is no "Lagaan" or "Dil Chahta Hai" but better than the releases this year.
