CROSS-STITCH -
A MAJOR HOBBY AND A WAY TO HELP OTHERS
I have decided to create this page so that my many friends who share this hobby can help me with an idea that was suggested to me by my friend, Louise.

For all those of you out there who enjoy cross-stitch for relaxation purposes or for those who are looking for some new challenges, let me tell you about an on-going project, based in America but with organisers all over the world.

I was getting a little bored by just stitching a picture, framing it and using it for decoration, and needed something to make me feel my work was more worthwhile.

The organisation is called the Angel Quilt Project and is run by a gentleman called James Farmer.  He started the project in November 1999, and with a bit of publicity the number of stitchers has grown beyond all expectations.

The stitcher completes a picture (there is no time limit to finish the pieces), either from the suggestions on the site or an idea of their own, stitches the relevant copyright information and their first name and last initial.  The idea behind the finished picture is that it will be given to a family which have a child either suffering from a childhood disese or parents with a premature child as a reminder  to the family that there are people who are thinking of them also.

Each piece of work stitched is sent to an official finisher, who frames the work with either felt or flannel and forwards it to a local hospital within the geographical area.  The finished piece is sent with a covering letter for the family recieving the donation from the Angel Quilt Project.

There are many hospitals receiving donations from this project all over the world.  The website has more information than I can give you, but if you are interested in helping, I have arranged a link directly to the site at the bottom of this page.  If you would like to return to my pages after looking through the site then please hit the BACK button on your browser.
