Guinea Fowl
On May 20, 2004, I got some guineas.  It all started with my brother....  He had found 2 ticks on his daughter and wanted to know what he could do to get rid of deer ticks.  Mom and I told him he needed some guineas.  It just so happened that the feedstore down the road had ordered some Blue and White guineas from a hatchery and were due to come in about a week later.  However, when the time came, the hatchery told the feedstore that the guineas hadn't hatched, so they sent Pearl and French guineas instead.  They came in on a Wednesday.  My brother, Mom and I went to see them, but my brother said he didn't have anywhere to put them.  We finally decided that I would take care of them until they were old enought to go outside and until he got their pen built.  Well, when we went back up there the next day, they had mixed the French and Pearls, so we couldn't tell them apart.  I decided to buy 3 for myself and my brother bought 4.  So I had 7 guinea keets (that's what baby guineas are called) in my bedroom.  When they were a couple of weeks old, I put them outside and my brother came and got his.  Sadly, all of his have been killed, I gave my male away so he wouldn't fight Old MacDonald, and one of my females (Buckwheat) was killed by a dog. I have one female left named Winnie and she thinks she's a chicken!  She's not as noisy now that she's the only guinea left, so that's a relief!
