Growing up, I always found myself trying to imitate voices, whether it was cartoon characters (like many I was a cartoon junkie growing up), singers, and movie/tv actors. Doing it professionally was always something that I thought I could do, but living in Alabama, there really isnt any outlets and connections into the voice acting biz. So finally last summer, after I got my comp, I discovered online amateur voice acting. This one kid was suppose to do a DBZ fandub, so I auditioned for him, but that never went through. But, he did give me a link to a site that would officially introduce me into the AVA world...that is when I discovered FLAVA mid-August of 2002. I remember spending a few hrs late at night exploring the site at first. There was alot of Sailor Moon shit, but then I found a Fushigi Yuugi project being produced by Nikki Jones. I had seen the series and was familiar with some of the characters being offered. So I auditioned for Nakago and another character in Gunsmith Cats. Surprisingly, Nikki casted me as both roles. So it was pretty good feeling getting casted the first time you audition. So that gave me motivation to continue with it. Like other VA newbies, I auditioned like crazy when I first got there. I scored a few roles in there, there were times where I got discouraged---recognizing how hard it was to establish yourself in a community where everyone has known each other for years. But I continued. Now its July of 2003, almost a full year, and I still dont think I've really made a name for myself in the VA community---due to some projects I was in disappearing or just cancelled all together. But the ones I have been completed I've been pretty proud of, so thats all that matters. I'm hoping this experience will help bring out skills I thought I never had, and I'll wait for that door to the professional world to open up (hopefully soon), til then, I'll keep voice acting for the fun of it. Peace!
