AOLiveMC2: Welcome, Thora Birch. It's a pleasure to welcome you to AOL Live.

Thora Birch: Hello, everybody!

AOLiveMC2: Let's get right to the questions.

Question: Your latest movie is "Dungeons & Dragons," in which you play
Empress Savina. Tell us a little bit about it.

Thora Birch: Well, it's essentially a story about good vs. evil. The empress
is the epitome of a good guy, and the main goal she has in the film is to
bring about a better life for her people.

Question: Was your role in "Dungeons & Dragons" difficult to portray?

Thora Birch: It was a new experience for me, purely because of the technical
aspect of working with a blue screen. And it was difficult just because of
the tediousness of working with a blue screen.

AOLiveMC2: Do you have to pretend more, working with a blue screen?

Thora Birch: You do. They will show you pictures of what the creatures are
supposed to look like. No matter how many, it's difficult to work with a blue
piece of paper. It's time consuming; you have to time your reaction in
accordance with the special effects that will be added on later. It's a very
deliberate process.

Question: Thora, do you ever like sit at home, make a bowl of popcorn and
put one of your own movies on?

Thora Birch: I love watching movies, but it will have to be very rare
occasions when I put my own on. Sometimes during the holiday season. On
Halloween I will put on Hocus Pocus, but other than that, I prefer to
watch other people films.

Question: Thora, who is your favorite celebrity?

Thora Birch: Hmmm! There are too many of them.

Question: What fulfills you so much about acting?

Thora Birch: Well, this is my life, and I have been doing it since I was 4
1/2. But for me, it's the challenge of trying to be as many different people
as possible, giving myself wholeheartedly to one character, and then turning
around and giving myself wholeheartedly to a different character.

Question: Do you have a talk show you are going to be on soon?

Thora Birch: I was on the Craig Kilborn show the other night.

Question: Hey, Thora, what's it like to be on the road a lot? Do you miss
your family?

Thora Birch: Nah, I love traveling. Mostly they come with me, anyway.

Question: Do you have a boyfriend? Or anyone in mind?

Thora Birch: Um-hmm. Yes, I do.

AOLiveMC2: Don't care to elaborate?

Thora Birch: LOL. No, not today.

AOLiveMC2: OK.

Question: Thora, you've acted in many different types of movies -- what type
of movie would you like to direct?

Thora Birch: Something very character driven. I'm not sure if I would chose
a drama over a comedy or vice versa, but definitely something that is very in
depth as far as the character is concerned.

Question: Do you have a fan club?

Thora Birch: I do have an unofficial Web site that doubles as a fan club as
well. It's thora.org.

Question: I watched your movie Now and Then. How do you think this movie
has enabled you to grow in your acting career? -- Amanda

Thora Birch: It was the first time I had really worked with that many kids
my age, and I think it helped me to be able to relate to other actors my age
on camera.

Question: Thora, you were incredibly funny on the Craig Kilborn show. Will
you be guesting on any other talk shows to promote Dungeons & Dragons?

Thora Birch: I hope so. I enjoy late-night talk shows a lot. The atmosphere
is fun, and I always end up having a good time, so hopefully....

Question: What was it like to work with such a diverse cast of actors such
as Jeremy Irons, Justin Whalin and Marlon Wayans?

Thora Birch: Unfortunately, I didn't have many things with Justin and
Marlon; it was mostly Jeremy. He is a wonderful, very intense, energetic
actor, and it was a joy to work off of him.

Question: Is Thora Birch your real name or a stage name?

Thora Birch: It's the real one!

AOLiveMC2: By the way, where does the name Thora come from?

Thora Birch: It's from Norse mythology. It's the sister of Thor, the God of
thunder and lightning, and the ruler of Thursday, the day on which I was born.

Question: Did you ever play Dungeons & Dragons, the game?

Thora Birch: Not yet, but I recently received some manuals and instructions
on how to play the game, and I plan on doing it very soon.

Question: How old are you now, and how old where you when you played as
Teeny in Now and Then?

Thora Birch: I'm 18 now, and in Now and Then I was 12.

Question: Thora, what's your all-time favorite movie?

Thora Birch: Casablanca.

Question: What do you like least about the movie business?

Thora Birch: The time before and after making the film.

Question: What other actresses did you compete with to win this role?

Thora Birch: I was one of the last ones signed on to do the film, and I just
had a meeting with the director, and there wasn't any audition process. I am
not sure who else was offered the role.

Question: Who is your favorite musician?

Thora Birch: Hmm, that's a good one. As far as musicians go, I am going to
say it is a tie between Miles Davis and Moby.

Question: What was the funniest moment on the set of "Dungeons and Dragons?

Thora Birch: It was actually getting stuck in one of the costumes. I had to
go to the bathroom once, and the boots had a long zipper up the side and it
got stuck once, and they had to cut them off me.

Question: Did you like working with this type of script and movie?

Thora Birch: It was different for me. I have never done a film like this
before, because it was more of a challenge.

Question: What qualities did you most admire about your character?

Thora Birch: I really admired her optimism and the fact that at the end of
the day, she really wanted to do good and bring change and a better life for
her people.

Question: How long have you been singing?

Thora Birch: Not sure about that one! I'm an actress, not a singer.

Question: What was the name of that sitcom you were in about 10 years ago?

Thora Birch: Day by Day.

Question: Do you have any siblings?

Thora Birch: Yes, I have a younger brother. He is 10, and his name is Kian.

Question: Do you go to watch your own movies when they're released?

Thora Birch: Sometimes, if I take a friend to go see it to get their
reaction, I will.

Question: What was it like wearing all those different gowns?

Thora Birch: It's kind of uncomfortable. It took a long time to get on and
take off. They definitely kept me feeling empressorial.

Question: Do you have any pets?

Thora Birch: Yes. I have many dogs and many cats on my ranch.

Question: What was the best film you have ever worked on?

Thora Birch: Well, they've all been special for different reasons. I
couldn't single one out. The most rewarding was American Beauty.

AOLiveMC2: Hope this one isn't too personal...

Question: Do you ever plan on taking a break to start a family or be with
family?

Thora Birch: Well, I am very fortunate to always be around family. To start
a family, geesh, I'm 18!

AOLiveMC2: Plenty of time.

Question: Thora, what is it like being an actress, and how did you get
started?

Thora Birch: I started when I was 4 1/2 in commercials and TV shows, and
when I was 9 I started in movies with Paradise, which I did with Don
Johnson and Melanie Griffith... and basically film acting is my passion, and
I get a great amount of joy out of it.

Question: Thora, I know this movie will be great. Have you been offered any
other acting positions for the upcoming year? -- Shawn

Thora Birch: Yes. I haven't decided on any projects yet, but I have been
offered a few. I will probably be busy next year.

Question: When you get older, would you rather start directing or keep
acting? -- Maria

Thora Birch: Keep acting and start directing, both.

Question: Was it embarrassing showing cleavage in "American Beauty?

Thora Birch: No, not as much as I thought it would be. It was actually an
important moment not only for the character but for the movie, so I didn't
have any qualms with it.

AOLiveMC2: We are just about out of time, so we will ask this last question:

Question: What are you wishing for this Christmas?

Thora Birch: I'm wishing to have a fun holiday with family and friends, and
a new cell phone.

AOLiveMC2: Thank you, Thora Birch, for joining us this evening.

Thora Birch: Thank you, everybody, and go see Dungeons & Dragons!
