The waiting game continues By Richard Salmons June 19 2003 Almost a year after Open Telecommunications fell victim to the stockmarket's technology crash, former software engineer Nick Bishop is just one of the high- tech company's former employees still trying to extract their entitlements. For Mr Bishop, losing a job has been compounded by the way a deed of company arrangement has made it difficult to access GEERS entitlements worth almost $40,000. "Our ability to claim under GEERS has been severely hampered by the way the deed was structured," Mr Bishop said. After three years working as a software engineer at OpenTel, Mr Bishop says he should be entitled to a redundancy package including 10 weeks' pay, worth $39,400. Mr Bishop said he was unhappy about the way the OpenTel administrator handled a creditors' meeting last October that agreed on the deed of company arrangement. He said a report to creditors was sent out by express post on the Thursday before the Monday meeting, so that most employees received it on Friday night and were unable to seek professional advice over the weekend.
