My graphical emoticons aren't working...

If you don't have Microsoft Paint installed, your graphical emoticons may not work.

When you initially installed Windows, you may not have checked the installation box for MS Paint. If this is the case, you need to install it by following these steps:

Windows 95/98/NT/Me

1. Click the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen.
2. Choose Settings, Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select the Windows Setup tab at the top of the Add/Remove Programs Properties screen.
4. Highlight the Accessories option, then click the Details button.
5. Scroll down the component list, check the box next to Paint (if it isn't already checked), and click the OK button.
6. Press the OK button to install MS Paint.

Windows 2000

1. Click the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen.
2. Choose Settings, Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click the Add/Remove Windows Components button on the left side of the window.
4. Highlight the Accessories and Utilities component and click the Details button.
5. Now highlight the Accessories subcomponent and press the Details button again.
6. Scroll down the component list, check the box next to Paint (if it isn't already checked), and click the OK button.
7. Press the OK button again to install Microsoft Paint.

Please Note: Windows may ask you for the installation disk after pressing the OK button.

If these steps don't fix the problem, uninstall and reinstall Yahoo! Messenger. Doing this will not cause you to lose your Friend List because that information is stored on our servers, not your machine.
