What is generalized anxiety disorder? Generalized anxiety disorder (other wise known as GAD) is persistant, excessive, uncontroable worry and anxiety, that lasts for a least 6 months or more. People have anxiety from time to time which is completely normal. When a person suffers from anxiety and worry in such a way that it interfers with a persons normal life, it becomes GAD. A person with GAD does not have confined anxiety like a person with Panic disorder, or OCD does. Their anxiety is not cofined to a significant distress or impairment. GAD is the most common anxiety dirorder. Treatment includes: Counceling , psychotherapies, and medication. The most commonly perscribed medicine for GAD, is Busbar. It is targeted to specificly help people with GAD, and is not habit forming. Busbar is not for ODC or panic disorder. It does not block panic attacks like anitdepressants( Zoloft, Prozac) can. Benzodiazepines ( Xanax, Klonopin) are also prescribed to help calm nerves. They generally are not continued over a long period of time because of high dependancy. |

Facts ~Researchers can reproduce some of the symptoms of human anxiety in animals by introducing different types of stress either physical or psychosocial. ~ About 3 to 4% of the US population has GAD during the course of a year. ~ GAD most often srtikes women rather than men. ~ GAD has no known cause. It is thought to be hereditary. |
