What is Agoraphobia?
Agoraphobia is a intense fear of situations in witch it may be difficult or embarrassing to quickly escape. People with agoraphobia often worry about having a painic attack in public, or panic symptoms. Agoraphobic's avoid going places like the mall, grocery store or theme parks, and often suffer so much anxiety when going out of their "safe zone" they become home bound. Most people who suffer from agoraphobia harvest a feeling of dread, or fear for no apparent reason. People who suffer from agoraphobia fear traveling on planes,or being on a bridge, or being in traffic. Any situation where they can't easily escape. Most often agorabhobia begins with a panic attacks. People start to suffer from panic attacks, and feel those feelings when they are at a place that is less comfrotable, like a mall or where there are large crowds, and they associate those panic feelings with going places. For example" If I go to the mall I will have a panic attack." So then they begin avoiding. The more they avoid the worse the agoraphobic gets until treatment is sought. An estimated 5.6% of adults develop agoraphobia at some point in their lives, and it is more common among women than men. Agoraphobia is completely treatable. Most people who seek help can and do live normal lives. Although there isn't a cure for agorabhobia, medications, and therapy can help you to get better. I am proof of that!
