From the Tool Palette select "Flood Fill" set for (RGB Value, Tolerance 20, Fill Style-Solid Color) and fill ellipse leaving room at the top for your text. Be sure it is centered on the page, Deselect.

  3. Change Foreground Color to Red (R-255, G-0, B-0) and fill image background. You will notice jaggies on the ellipse; before we go any further we are going to get rid of them, Yes! From the Tool Palette select the "Magic Wand" and click on your background, then choose "Selections|Invert." The ellipse should be selected. Now choose "Image|Normal Filters|Blur More" and repeat three times.

    ELLIPSE 2

  4. Open a new Image the same size as your first one. Make a second Ellipse slightly smaller, it will go in the center of your Black Ellipse. Fill with my Lace Image by choosing "Flood Fill" set for "Pattern|Options" and choose Lace Image.

  5. While the Lace Image is still selected choose "Edit|Copy" and go back to your first Black Ellipse and choose "Edit|Paste|as new Selection" lining it up in the center. While it is still selected we will add a 3D effect by selecting "Image|Special Effects|Cutout". Set attributes to (Fill Interior Off, Shadow Color-Black, Opacity-200, Blur-10, Vertical-2, Horizontal-2) and click OK. Repeat the Cutout effect, with (Vertical=-2, Horizontal=-2). Deselect.

    BANNER

  6. Open a third Image 350 x 350 pixels with your background set for White and Red as your Foreground Color. From the "Tool Bar" select the Line Tool, Width 3 and draw a line from left to right just about the complete length of your Image. Release the mouse and draw indentions downward, release the mouse and draw a line going from right to left and complete the banner with the indentions. Change your Foreground Color to Black and "Flood Fill" the Banner.

  7. Choose "Image|Plug-in Filters|Filter Factory B|Fluttering Flag". There are six attributes, set them in this order 220, 170, 0, 0, 0, 0 and click OK. If the banner isn't selected, do it now. Then choose "Image|Rotate to the Right about 40o". Choose "Image|Normal Filters|Blur" twice.

  8. While banner is still selected, we will once again do a Copy and Paste. Select "Edit|Copy" and go back to your original Image and do "Edit|Paste|as new Transparent Selection" and line it up as I did. If it isn't as long as you would like, it can be Resampled to a larger size by choosing "Image|Resample". Be sure to check the original size displayed in the lower right of the screen. You may want to "Blur" one more time to get rid of jaggies. Your Banner should look similar to my example below. It may look even better, Really!

    TEXT

  10. Choose Black as your Foreground Color. Add the words Happy Valentine's Day at the top of your Image as I did. The font I used is FormalScrp421BT, Bold, Size 23. Set attributes to (Antialias On, Center On, Floating On). Then give it some depth choose "Image|Special Effects|Cutout". Set Attributes to (Fill Color Off, Shadow Color-Black, Opacity-200, Blur-10, Vertical-2, Horizontal-2) and click OK. Repeat the Cutout with (V=-2, H=-2). Give it a Drop Shadow set for Black. If you don't have this font choose another script font, it will look just as great. Pretty easy, Right?

    HEARTS

  11. Select my heart and be sure to change it to 16 million colors by choosing "Colors|Increase Color Depth|16 Million". If you don't do this step you will not be able to work with it. Using the Magic Wand select the Border, then go to "Selections|Invert"; the Heart should be the only thing selected. Now choose "Edit|Copy", go back to your Original Image and "Edit|Paste". Line it up as I did or use your imagination. You will need to Resample it to make it a little smaller. We reviewed Resampling, Rotation and Depth already. Apply these features as you would like. If you don't get it right the first time you can delete it as long as it is still selected.

Select the Border with the "Magic Wand", then "Image Plugin Filters|Filter Factory A| Pool Shadow" click OK. Then "Image|Special Effects|Buttonize" set for (Edge Size 1, Transparent Edge). While the border is still selected we will give it a 3D effect by selecting "Image|Add Drop Shadow" (Color-Black, Opacity-190, Blur-10, Vertical-2, Horizontal-2). Repeat Shadow, Vertical=-2, Horizontal=-2).

  13. Repeat the step above making your Border Size 15. This time we will Buttonize to (Edge Size 3, Transparent Edge). Our Valentine is finished, honest, except for:

    FILE REDUCTION

  14. Choose "Image|Resample" set to (Custom On, Maintain Aspect Ratio On, and resize to 210 x 210 pixels.
  15. Colors|Decrease Color Depth - 256 colors - OK.
  16. Colors|Count Colors - (make a note of the number).
  17. Colors|Increase color depth to 16 Million.
  18. Colors|Decrease color depth by X colors, type in your number, click OK. We just decreased our file size by a significant amount, a very important tip.
  19. Save Image as gif.
