Dan was born in London, Ontario on July 26, 1877. At the age of 21 he acquired a homestead near Souris in Peabody Township. On June 10, 1908 Dan married Annie Simpson, daughter of John and Sarah Simpson of Stonewall, Manitoba. She was born May 21, 1887.

Dan and Annie had four children: Hazel (Mrs. Bill Bietz) of Seattle, Mildred (Mrs Ernest Vihstodt) of Seattle, Donna (Mrs. L. R. Kure) of Everett, WA and Donald of Bottineau.

Donald Jr. married June Palmer Braun. They lived on the family farm until 1969. They then purchased a home in town but Don continued to farm the land.
