British North Greenland Expedition
1952 to 1954
The B.N.G.E was a major expedition in the tradition of Scott.
It was from July 1952 to July 1954,though not all the 30 team members stayed for both years.
Sadly a Danish  Captian lent to the expedition did not return.
Its purpose was 3 fold scientific exploration, training of service men in the Arctic conditions and showing  the flag.
The Navy and Army both sent men and the RAF transported men and equipment to the Arctic.
There were many areas to study glaciology, meteorology, geology, physiology and more along with surveying both gravimetric and seismological.also radio wave propgation was investigated.
Travel was either on foot or weasel vehicles
