Day four: August 31, 2000
Despite the forecast for extreme heat and humidity on this day, I didn't get going until around 10:15 the next morning. This day would be something like 150 km in length. (All these distances are roughly calculated, since I don't currently have an odometer.) I guess it's an indication of how much I wanted to finish the trip that I didn't stop to take a picture until I got to Quebec. (A good 75-80 km into the day.) Of course, much of the earlier riding was done in the Cornwall area and, well, who would want to take a picture of Cornwall? Anyway, here we are, in the Motherland...
Two long hours later, the highlight of the trip: Lunch at Smoke Meat Pete's. This is what Montreal is all about, folks. Of course, I'm still actually about 1 km away from the Island of Montreal. A great place to spend 45 minutes! Notice my lovely beverage (my water bottle.). I'd forgotten that a drink was included with my meal. But it's okay, i got the drink before I left. ;)  In any case, this photo alone should drive you to take some sort of trip to Montreal.
Here's a shot of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, from the bridge connecting it to Ile-Perrot. Ste-Anne's is a nice little town at the very western tip of the Isle of Montreal. It is also the site of an epic journey by a young Mr. Dayton Noble. Unfortunately, I was not able to see the hit band "Parker", as they were on their World Tour.
Here I've arrived at the edge of Dorval, the Montreal suburb where my Mom and sisters live, about 10 km from the actual CITY of Montreal. That is, for now.. I may have to update this if the municipal merger goes through! Long live Redneck Island!
Home Sweet Home. Well, my Mom's home at least. Time to fall off the bike and in to bed... for a few days. Actually, it was two days later that my Dad came up with all my stuff. That's when I actually moved into residence. You can see residence pictures when (if) i put up a page about Concordia!
Well, that's it. Four days, something like 630 km. It hurt a lot, but I'm glad I've done it. I'd like to do it again, but hopefully with a fellow rider. Maybe my Dad if he ever gets in shape. ;) If you're interested in trying it, once again I'd advise you to visit Brian Hedney's page, which I've linked in the first page of this section. It's a great starting point. Other cycling links are coming soon.
