The brainchild of Gunpei Yokoi, the creator of the Metroid series and the phenomenal Game Boy, the Virtual Boy can be named the very first commercial virtual reality console. Unfortunately, while its red and black scheme does pull off the illusion of 3D graphics very well, it does very little else for one's visual advantage. It should come as no surprise that only 14 games were released for the Virtual Boy in the US. It was a brilliant idea, just too far ahead of its time to be viable.
