Taking A Month Off

December 2, 2005
Previously...     Next time...

There are some who might be displeased at this, but it is the truth: I will not be singing karaoke anywhere during the month of December.

From somewhere out in the anonymous void that is cyberspace I hear the echoing demand of "Why?" Because I need the time away from the smoke-filled depths to rest my stressed vocal cords. I need to go a week or four without having to sit and wait while groups of inebriated college students compete for volume and obnoxiousness. I need to go a while without hearing Picture and Friends In Low Places performed in a language that can only be labeled 'screamumble.' I need time off from ignoring the dance breaks, watching the previously-mentioned drunks gyrating in ways that make me wonder why they don't just yank off their torn jeans and hiked-up skirts and start screwing on the floor (while I roll my eyes in exasperation, trying to figure out why I'm not getting any action). Don't get me wrong, it's been great and I will miss it...
But don't get the impression that I will remain idle during my absence from the sports bars. That is the wrong impression. I will keep myself quite busy, apart from the mundane activities at Wal-Mart given to me by customers and slave drivers alike. For one thing, I am still hard at work on a number of novels and a larger number of songs that I am writing. I am also seeking new venues in which to perform an original stand-up comedy act, within which I will reveal some interesting inventions of my own design.
I also intend to spend much of my off-duty hours playing video games. After all, what good is some downtime if you can't spend it blasting droids?
