Philosophy of learning and teaching

How this has created your identity as an English Teacher?

Karen Ocón

The best way to learn something is when you enjoy it.  I feel great when my students like every class we have, when they enjoy learning.  Students have to be the center of the class.  They need to know they are responsible for their learning process.  Its important that the teacher and the students enjoy their roles.

To be a teacher is a very important responsibility.  The teacher has to know a lot about her/his students in order to create a better and friendly environment.  The teacher has many values he/she needs to know how to share with students.

I love teaching.  To become a teacher has helped me to grow as a professional, as a person, to learn more about me:  my abilities as a facilitator, and learning more about people and their values.

Adrián Hernández:

In my opinion teaching involves many factors.  As a teacher we can influence our students lives (to what point we don’t know).  Teaching is not only imparting a lesson, teaching is to expand students knowledge.  To leave a mark on our students minds.  At the same time making the learning process fun.

How do I think we influence our students ?  It has to do with our own values and experiences.  Allowing students to understand that we all see things from the scope of our own experience.  Through our actions we can greatly influence our students in a positive way.  For example by arriving on time we can help students understand  they importance of being responsible.

Teaching is not limited to a lesson.  Teaching is guiding someone else to discover its potential.  Teaching is guiding our students to look beyond the obvious possibilities.  Teaching is helping our students understand how to think, not what to think.  Teaching is helping our students understand that learning is an active process in which they must take part of…

Victor González Quijano:

Whenever I teach a new course, one of my greatest  concerns is how and what my students are learning the new material, I mean they may not be learning the stuff (Academic material) they are supposed to acquiring; so I have to make sure what is being difficult for them and what is being useful for them, too.

Being a teacher means, being able to teach in a perfect way, even though there is no perfect way to teach.  We have to try to be perfect for excellent teachers by looking for the most appropriate material in order to satisfy student needs….

Yalta Vílchez:

Before starting to talk about learning and teaching we should know the definitions that some experts have set about them.

Learning:  The act, process or experience of gaining knowledge or skills. Knowledge or skills gained through schooling or studies.

Teaching:  The act, practice, occupation or profession of a teacher.   Something taught, a precept or doctrine.

A teacher only have to research or read about these definitions but also to write or say and share his or her own philosophy of learning and teaching according to the experience he/she has acquired.

There are two types of learning formal and informal.  The knowledge gained through schooling (formal) and all the things that one has learned  since he/she was born until he/she dies.  As human beings, nobody is perfect or equal….

 Fernando Castillo:

In the process of teaching, a lot of material has been written and many scholars has focused their energy of the aspects of “what”, “How”, “why”, “where” and “when” to teach.  And we have developed many methods, approaches, techniques, and strategies.  But while performing in this process you, as a teacher, realized that you need more tools, more elements; in this sense you feel your need to know more about learning.

My philosophy of teaching is what to teach is important, why, when, but the most important is how to teach/ learn….

 Ofelia Trigüeros:

Teachers are an important factor in the learning process of students and that is why we will never stop studying and practicing, because “the most you know, the most you are”.

 Fernando Rodríguez:

Learning is a human need, mainly to interact amongst each other in order to give meaning to life.  We need to survive in this world and as a consequence of survivor humans need to communicate not only in their native language but also in other foreign languages…..

 Hubert Luna:

Teaching is a revolving process that has no end in itself and an end in itself.  Teaching is a permanently changing process that should derive from having carefully analyzed the philosophies of our learners, so that we adapt our teaching styles to our student learning needs.  Teaching is the transmission of values, experiences, and above all the confidence in letting our students know that they can learn anything they want as long as they strongly believe in themselves.

 Elvis Cuadra:

My philosophy of teaching is very practical, “we learn by doing, this means that if you are learning how to swim, and you never had the chance to go to a swimming pool, you will only have theories in your mind, but actually, you will never be able to swim if you don’t try.
