Bluefields

Bluefields is a beautiful Caribbean town and is Nicaragua's main Caribbean port.  It sits on the shores along a coastal lagoon.  Its economy is based on shrimp, lobster and deep-sea fishing.  Bluefields is the birth place of a particular kind of Caribbean music called "Palo de Mayo" which is also the name of the festival in May.

To get there you can drive or take a bus from Managua to "El Rama", a river port on the "Rio Escondido".  From there you can navigate to Bluefields. If you prefer flying, it only takes a 50-minute plane ride from Managua.

From Bluefields you can take trips to the surrounding white sandy beaches, water lagoons and also to the idyllic Pearl Cays.

Puerto Cabezas

Puerto Cabezas is located on the northern part of the Atlantic region and is Nicaragua's second port on the Caribbean.

You can get there by road or by plane. It is mainly a fishing port rich in lobster, shrimp and prawns. It is also wonderful for deep sea fishing, especially for mackerel and tuna.  From "Puerto Cabezas" you can explore the coast as there are many lagoons and rivers, small villages that will amaze you, and great opportunities for scuba diving.

The " Cayos Miskitos" is a small archipelago of paradise-like islands with white sandy beaches, coconut palm trees and an incredible coral reef waiting to be discovered.

Marine grass feed and shelter manatees. Turtles from the area live here, and it is quite common to see them sunbathing or playing in the sand.  Remember that it is forbidden to touch the reef and the wildlife.

Corn Island

Corn Island is a small paradise, only 20 minutes away from Bluefields by plane.  It has 8sq. km of unspoiled, natural white sandy beaches.  The water is blue on one side of the island and turquoise on the other.  There the coral reef is virtually untouched, making it a "Mecca" for the scuba diving and snorkeling fanatic.  There is a also a XVI century Spanish galleon, only 18 feet underwater, that you can explore at your leisure. The reef and the galleon are protected national relics.

From Corn Island you can visit Little Corn Island and enjoy its beautiful beaches, walk into the island and enjoy its colorful and transparent waters.
