'Hope, it is the quintessential human delusion,
simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and your
greatest weakness'I think it's safe to
say that Matrix Reloaded has become a box office success.
Taking a chance on waiting 5 years to release a sequel is
always a risk. A risk that was inevitable for the film
however, because the film itself took a remarkable 3 years to
complete. The multiple Agent Smith fight scene alone was a
hefty month long shoot and the special effects took almost 2
years to complete.
There were a number of tragic
events surrounding the filming of Matrix Reloaded, even before
filming began. Singer Aaliyah was originally cast as the
character Zee (Nona Gaye) but she was killed in a plane crash
shortly before filming. Also, just before filming finished,
Gloria Price (the Oracle) passed away from complications with
diabetes. Even the living had a rough time through filming of
the movie. Carrie-Anne Moss broke her leg during wire
training, Laurence Fishburne fractured his arm and Hugo
Weaving pulled a disc in his neck.
It takes a special
kind of corportation to give away products worth thousands of
dollars, knowing full well that they're soon to be destroyed.
General Motors donated over 300 different cars for the filming
of Matrix Reloaded. All of which were completely demolished by
the end of filming.
