Islay Trip 2001

In May 2001 Fiona and I managed to sneak off for a weekend without the kids. We packed the up the Deauville and headed off up the west coast of Scotland. 6 ferries and 3 islands later we'd visited Islay, Jura and Arran, had a look at something like 8 distilleries and not encountered a spot of rain!
Waiting for the 2 hour Islay ferry at the terminal near Tarbert.
The Bowmore distillery on Islay.
The Deauville parked on the pier at Port Charlotte on Islay. Fiona decided to get off and leave me to ride the bike to the end by myself...
If you visit Islay you count do a lot worse than stay at the Port Charlotte hotel, which is just behind here.
This is a little village which seemed unusual for the Scottish West coast in not having a pub. Later we found out that there is a licensed pub in someones living room!
Another distillery (just down the hill) - this time Caol Ila just outside Port Askaig on Islay. Fionas family are from Islay and are associated with a distillery in this area. You can see the Paps of Jura in the distance.
On the short ferry crossing between Islay and Jura.
Yet another distillery, this time on Jura.
Looking towards Arran, waiting for the ferry to Lochranza.
