NORTH CAROLINA DISC UFO REPORT A HOAX
George:
"MUFON Investigator Rex Peterson writes that the North Carolina story is a hoax perpetuated by someone who uses various aliases such as Paul Novak, Grendel 1, Grendel The Martyr, and Sceptic Trooper, etc."
Grendel:
Oops, Wrong. Just good ol' Grendel 1. I informed no one of this hoax until after it was perpetrated. [email protected] is merely my cut-away email addy, Paul is Paul, not me, and I dunno who Sceptic Trooper is.
George:
"Apparently, Paul Novak chooses to spend a couple hours unashamedly typing out fake UFO reports."
Maybe he does. I dunno, 'cause I ain't Paul Novak. Might wanna check with a lawyer on this Paul. Hey does this constitute defamation or libel? Is it actionable?
George"
"Editor's Note: I have often mentioned, "These are initial reports and need further investigation."
Grendel:
I've been reading Filer's Files for a year and never saw that disclaimer.
George:
"I admit we have difficulty in determining if someone is dishonest when sending or calling in a report."
Grendel:
From the horse's mouth -our reports are unreliable.
George:
"This particular report was detailed and several typed pages long. It probably took more than an hour to write."
Grendel:
Nope. Try ten minutes.
George:
"Most of the key details of the story such as the loss of life in the Hurricane Floyd , the flooding on Tar River, NC and other details seemed accurate."
Grendel:
So, if it merely seems accurate, you post it without investigation, eh?
George:
"Our investigations, phone calls, travel costs are at our cost on a volunteer basis. The final reports are signed."
Grendel:
This info means little unless you actually DO an investigation, eh? MUFON self-describes as a "scientific organization" on its home page. What scientific organization publishes first and investigates second?
George:
"We consistently find that 99% of the 300 people a month reporting UFO reports are truthful."
Grendel:
How do you find this? Have you investigated all 300? Each and every month?
George:
"Generally people are quite excited by their sighting. These initial reports are reported has quickly as possible to you the reader, and investigation is done after the fact usually taking many months. When ever possible our investigators interview the persons who wrote the report and have them sign a form indicating their willingness to stand behind their report."
Grendel:
Oh, I see. You were going to do an investigation within many months.
Well, we'll see won't we? Because the NC sighting was not the ONLY fake sighting I sent in, lol. Be sure to ask me to keep you posted on whether MUFON follows up on my other reported sighting(s) within "many months."
