 Tricks & Scams

Many believers claim Ufo sightings reports represent a huge database of information indicating the presence of  alien beings on earth  simply because the sheer volume cannot be ignored. Just as many feel the percentage of hoaxes to be rather low as compared to the amount of "authentic" reports this database supposedly is composed of.

We believe this to be incorrect and that in fact the data base is so hopelessly full of hoax ing and unverified  information as to be useless.  Here we are chronicle examples of why we think this is, and the ways this data continues to inspire belief despite it's dubious nature.

Part of our quest is to continue with our own hoaxes in an effort to eventually orchestrate a hoax  which  no one will be able to conclusively identify as one and will become widely accepted as "authentic". Once this is achieved we will of course reveal it for what it is.  What this will do for us is demonstrate the biases, faulty research, and flaws inherent in the work that comprises ufology today.

Just how easy is it?

Here you can see our small gallery of photo's we have made using various means. All were simplicity itself. The hardest part really, is getting noticed! But once you put them out there, they can easily take on a life of their own. So be forewarned, if you are going to give it a try, be prepared for whatever may come. Who knows, one day you might see your own pictures on a website somewhere, labeled as "authentic". Skeptics Tricks Hoax Photos.

Even easier but not as much fun is filing bogus reports. Since ufology is built mainly upon a foundation of anectdotal testimony, it's a givin that whatever tomfoolery you can come up with till likely be accepted by someone somewhere. Like this one here. Filers Follies.

Although not as much fun, filing these reports can be a great source of insight into the factors that lead to a report being accepted as convincing. Unless the story is unusually sensational, little investigation or cooborative efforts on the part of researchers can be expected.

What do you do if you get caught?

Well, you did want to get caught right? You wouldn't be looking to capitalize upon any innocent believers gullibility would you?

Seriously, at worst, you can expect to have a few irate believers hound you for awhile in most cases. In our cases, it's mostly nasty e-mails and message board attacks. Needless to say, we don't go out of our way to meet any of these people in public. After all, there ARE a lot of kooks out there and Ufology has em in droves.

Our advice is this. Never seek monetary gain. Always have a point to make with your attempts. And although the urge may be great to do otherwise, stay anonymous. Sure it is fun to be known as the guy who fooled the highfalutin Ufologists, but it get's tedious and annoying after a few e-mail bombings and message board  stalkers come your way.

And it can get much much worse in extreme cases. I have witnessed character attacks so underhanded I sincerely worried about the sanity of those involved. Look at the attacks upon James Randy over the years. He's been accused of lying, cheating, pedophilia, defamation, libel, etc etc and the list is endless. Suffice to say, the better you are at this stuff, the worse it can get.

So while we heartily encourage anyone so inclined to go ahead and try a few hoaxes themselves, we also must strongly caution and warn you. It can get hairy. And you have no one to blame but yourself.
