GYMKANA PATTERNS
BARRELS:
In California Poles you can start on either direction and you must weave around each pole. Your are only judged on time. You want speed and mainly accuracy with your quick weaving. Knocking over or missing poles will cost you time. Like the barrels you are given a maximum of 2 minutes. But overall this is one of my favourite game patterns!
CALIFORNIA POLES:
WESTERN POLES:
In Western Poles you can start in either direction. You are judged only on time. So you want to be fast. Your best way to gain time in this pattern is to increase your speed on the way there and back and slowing down slightly to weave in and out of the poles. Knocking or missing the poles will cost you time. (or disqualification). This is also a great game!
JUMP POLES:
In Jump Poles you can start in either direction. It is just like California Poles except with low jumps placed in between them. You want speed as it is only judged on time. Jumping in a western saddle is hard and needs practice! Knocking over poles will cost you time. This is my favourite event. I got 19.55seconds!
LITTER RACE:
EGG STOMP:
Egg stomp is pretty straight forward. All you have to do is gallop down to the end of the ring and there will be an egg placed on the ground. You have to get your horse to step on it while mounted. This is quite funny to watch as some horses don't want to step on it!! All you need is speed!
Litter race is quite frustrating. You are given a broom stick. You have to gallop down to the end of the ring and try to pick up a 1 Litre milk carton with the stick by placing it in the top of the open carton. Then you have to run back and place it into a bucket. You have a limit of 2 minutes which runs by fast if you can't pick up the milk carton!
Ballon pop scares many horses! You are given a broom stick with a nail on the end. Then you have to gallop down to the center of the ring and pop at least 1 balloon, then you turn around a pole and come back and have to pop another balloon and run to the finish. Some horses are scared by the sight of the balloon so this game should be practiced at home!
BALLOON POP:
THREAD THE NEEDLE:
Thread the needle needs a lot of patience. You have to gallop down to the end and pass through a set of poles and then go around the center pole and come back. Knocking over poles or stepping out of the circle will cost you time, even disqualification. This is quite a fun game!

In the barrel pattern you can start in either direction, it forms the shape like a clover. You are judged only on time. Knocking down a barrel will cost you time. You are looking for speed and skill when choosing a barrel horse. When coming around the third barrel on your way back you have to come straight through the first two barrels in order to qualify. In Gymkana they give you a maximum of 2 minutes or else your disqualified!
