Teaching Freshman English at Northern High School is my distinct pleasure!  This is my first year at Northern, and it has been a wonderful experience thus far.  As I tell our freshmen, we are finding our way here together, and keeping our eyes open as we take in all there is to learn.    The freshmen I have the pleasure to teach seem eager to learn and are open-minded.  An added bonus is that the teachers from the Blue Team of Freshman Academy are also!  We are collaborating to make this year's Academy the most productive for our students.  In addition,  English class will be an experience this year I hope that our kids will not forget.  We will "visit" Elizabethan England with Shakespeare, view life through the eyes of a Holocaust survivor, and meet other characters of note.  Communication taking the form of writing, speaking, and listening will be a central focus for us-- we will host debates, consider poetry and music as similar art forms,  and correspond with  students in other countries.  Freshman Seminar allows us time to get focused and organized and take a look at where our lives are headed.  This year  Ms. White's classroom is focused on the theme of Opening Eyes-- to better see  the skills, strengths, qualities, of ourselves and others-- and to constantly improve.

Welcome to Ms. Smiths Environmental Science.  We have been very busy the past few weeks reviewing lab safety rules and creating collages that depict current environmental issues.  In addition to our general environmental studies, we discuss major environmental events that occur worldwide.  Hurricane Katrina has been a recent discussion topic where the ecosystem, economic, and social impacts of the storm have been evaluated.  Current events will be an integral part of our environmental science class because changes in the world around us are constantly creating new areas of exploration.  I look forward to great year of environmental investigations, discussions and experiments.

Thanks,
Ms. Smith

Welcome to the Freshmen Academy from your Algebra teachers.  We are under a lot of pressure this year as all incoming ninth graders must pass the State exam so that they can receive a diploma.  Therefore it is our goal to have 100% of all ninth grade Algebra students pass their exam.  All of our efforts are being put into this and we look forward to your help.  All of the teachers on the team are committed to this effort so we know we can do this.
This last two weeks we have covered the order of operations and operations on signed numbers.  Friday we began learning or re-learning about the properties.  We were impressed with how much the students remember.
The students have taken two quizzes and we are beginning to asses areas of weaknesses and competencies.  We are all about remediation as we go along and will institute some of these next week.

We are looking forward to this year.

Thank you,

Mrs. Stubblefield and Mrs. Vogel
NEVER INVADE RUSSIA IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER... It is often those who commit such actions that others would label as crazy who actually make it in the history books. I'm ok with crazy.

Feel free to email me about anything.

In World History we will discuss many topics from Ancient Rome to Napoleon (Bonaparte and Dynamite) to Ronald "Dutch" Reagan to Hurricane Katrina. Crazy or not discussion and communicate are the keys to success. Academy will not function without those keys. Without trying to sound like the dorky cheerleader I was back in high school, "Join the TEAM!"...ok there is no way around it...that was dorky...
