| Goalies Gone | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Many teams in both the WHA and NHL have expressed interest in changing up their starting goalie. The Racers have been shopping Barasso without looking for a goalie in return. The rebuilding Rangers have started testing the waters with Richter but are expecting a premium price for the hall of fame goalie and there are cheaper solutions for other teams on the market right now. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The strongest rumors going right now are between two struggling teams, the Bruins and Blues. It has been well noted throughout the season that the Bruins are not happy with goalie Byron Dafoe. They have been looking for an upgrade but with almost no opportunity of that happening they are apparently interested in just making a change.
The Blues are tight to the salary cap and have a big upcoming ufa in Jeff Hackett coming up this offseason. The Blues are looking for a shakeup to get the team rolling but are also trying to make some creative moves to ease their cap situation. Sources state that the deal is currently at a stalemate but that the names on the table are Dafoe and Doug Gilmour heading to St.Louis in return for Hackett and Brett Hull. |

| Hull would bring the Bruins some serious goal scoring and likely line up with Havlat and Roenick for a deadly top line. Hulls absence could be filled in St.Louis by finally giving Demitra the ice time he deserves on the top line right wing.
With this move, St.Louis would be able to move out a couple million in cap room, have their goaltending locked up for 3 years and not lose much on the offence. On the other hand, the Bruins land one of the best scorers in the game, a noted team leader and get out from Dafoe and Gilmour who are just not cutting it. |

| Ready to Rebuild | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Several teams are now looking at this season as a bust and have chosen to start rebuilding. The Rangers and Flames are in that mode and the Knights are following Torontos lead and rebuilding on the fly. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The Rangers have decided to shop their #1 defenceman, Jeff Bukeboom. Unfortunately he has a discipline problem and most contending teams are a little leary of paying a premium price for him. The Rangers will likely find the market better as they near the trade deadline.
The Knights have been shopping just about everyone and have also been one of the most trade happy teams in recent weeks. Everyone has been on the their block from the recently moved Arnott to Sheldon Souray and every other veteran player. The Knights are in a market for a RW or two. Apparently the Leafs have been in touch with them about dealing veteran Pat Verbeek but the Knights are in no rush to pick up a roll player right now. |

| Another rebuilding team, the Flames, have been recently rumored talking the the Leafs. Apparently the Flames are shopping several players including centerman Alexei Zhamnov. The Leafs have been after a top 6 player all season and have expressed interest. Rumors have the Leafs lowballing the Flames offering a package of late picks and defenceman Andrei Zyuzin for the upcoming ufa. No word yet from the Calgary side.
