1982 Wildcats make tracks to state two years straight
This year's NHHS cross country team was a mix of
veteran and youth. Everyone realized that if the Cats were to truly be
a good team that goals had to be set, and reached. Miles and miles of hard
work were put in to prepare, then finally it just came down to doing what
was needed to perform well. By now there were no more untested youths on
the team, just runners with goals to reach. Some of the goals of the season?
To run extremely well at Holton, Burlingame, Osage City, to win the first
ever NHHS Wildcat Classic, to place third, or better at Regional, and to
place eighth at the state meet. Every one of those goals, set during two-a-day
practices were reached. Without all of the determination, effort, and caring
which became trademarks of this
year's team, there would not have been the personal best times, the
excellent team performances, the state
meet to proudly remember, and most importantly there would not have
been all of those very pleased smiles
that were seen all season long. In 1981 going to state was a storybook
ending. There was a storybook feeling again
in 1982, not just at state, but throughout a whole season packed with
great memories of performances that
make it very easy to look forward to next year with.......smiles!
