Area runners take to the Orchard

Several area schools competed at the cross country meet at Bob Karr´s Orachard last week, including Olpe, Northern Heights, Council Grove, Lebo and the Emporia junior varsity.
The Eagles won the girls´ event with 30 points, followed by Northern Heights (47), Council Grove (75), Lebo (76) and Emporia (118).
Leading the way for Olpe was Michelle Stueve, who finished in first place with a time of 12:46. In addition, Allison Samuels was third (12:57), Sheila Zeller sixth (13:38), Monica Zeller eighth (13:50) and Haley Hubert 12th (14:20).
Ashley Johnson had the top finish for Northern Heights as she was fifth at 13:28, while Megan Hedberg was seventh (13:40), Brenda Pracht ninth (13:56), Sarah Lockyear 10th (14:07) and Amie Jackson 16th (14:47).
Kim Liddick was second behind Stueve for Council Grove with a time of 12:56, followed by the Braves Jennie Throne in 11th (14:12), Brandy Frese 17th (14:53), Jennifer Talib 21st (15:10) and Stefanie Laughlin 24th (15:20).
For Lebo, Nichole Combes came in fourth at 13:25, while Scarlett Colstrom was 13th (14:21) and Skye Egan 18th (14:59). In addition, Casey Strawder was 19th (15:00) and Meagan Novotny 22nd (15:11).
Finally, Kim Barrett led the Emporia JV with a time of 14:43 to finish 15th, and Shelby Crow and Emily Pientka were 23rd and 25th with times of 15:12 and 15:22. Also, Jaimie Sirico was 26th (15:42) and Tatyanna Cristobal 29th (16:52).
Other area results were Olpe´s Cathy Slater 18th (14:42) and Natasha Stevenson 26th (15:09); Northern Heights´ Sierra Torrens 44th (17:06); Council Grove´s Traci Barrett 36th (16:15) and Erica Meyers 37th (16:22); Lebo´s Angela Sullivan 42nd (17:04); Emporia´s Katie Walstrom 46th (18:35) and Andrea Falcetto 47th (20:18); Lyndon´s Desiraye Osburn second overall (12:54), Jesi Osburn fifth (13:14) and Stephanie Meyer 38th (16:23); Hartford´s Jacque Dill 16th (14:35) and Mary Dill 45th (17:40).
In the boys´ competition, Olpe coasted to first place with 34 points, followed by the Emporia JV (58), Northern Heights (82), Council Grove (99), Hartford (129), Herington (131) and Osage City (152).
Leading the charge for Ople were Trevor Schreiner and Dustin Ballinger, who finished in first and second with times of 18:18. Schreiner won the race at the finish line.
Also, Matt Medeneiv was seventh (19:01), Charles Stephens ninth (19:07) and Reid Farr 15th (19:18).
Mike Christiani starred for Emporia, placing sxith with a time of 18:51, while Freddy Maroquin was eighth (19:05) and Mike Kennett 10th (19:07). In addition, Brian Willhite was 16th (19:32) and Edgar Villa 18th (19:40).
For Northern Heights, Caleb Clock was fourth (18:29), Jerad Blaufuss 12th (19:15), Randy Redelfs 19th (19:41), Craig Dekat 23rd (20:15) and Jerrod Commerford 24th (20:34).
D.J. Barber paced Council Grove with a time of 19:08 to take 11th, followed by Josh Seymour in 11th (19:16), Jeremy Cosgrove 14th (19:17), Robby Sisson 28th (21:09) and Brett Wright 33rd (21:40).
Hartford´s top finish was recorded by Matt Zumbrunn, who was fifth in 18:44. In addition, Craig Menke was 17th (19:36), Tyler Robinson 27th (21:01), Jeremy Dow 39th (23:17) and Justin Grieder 41st (24:21).
Finally, Osage City´s Brian Carriger was 22nd (20:01), Aaron Lane 26th (20:55), Joe Punches 30th (21:21), Mike Burkdoll 36th (21:54) and Collin Earheart 38th (22:08).
