Mid-East League -- Riley County standout Erin Mortimer broke her own course record at last Thursday's Council Grove Cross Country Invitational. Mortimer finished in 11 minutes, 28 seconds -- 15 seconds better than her 11:43 last year.
Northern Heights swept the team crowns at the meet, the girls totalling 48 points and the boys edging Riley County by one, 56-57. The Wildcats' Justin Johnson won the boys' race in 16:49, while Garett Frank and Ryan Marcotte backed him with a fifth and sixth, respectively. Amy VanGundy (fifth) and Kari Robidou (seventh) were top-10 finishers for the girls.
