Homework

Homework is expected to be completed when assigned.  Homework must be out and ready to go over when the bell rings.  It is important to stay organized!  Keep your homework in the homework section of your binder.I reserve the right not to accept it if I have already passed by the student's desk and it is not visibly out and completed. When there is not a homework assignment each student should review his or her notes from each day.  Homework will NOT be accepted late unless the student has an excused absence!

Progress Reports

Progress Reports will be issued approximately every 4 weeks. All students must get progress reports signed by a parent the very day they are issued.

Grading Policies

Letter grades will be assigned to percentages in accordance with the county guidelines.  The students average for the class will come from the following breakdown of assignments:

 Tests
 Quizzes
 Homework
 Class Participation

Academic Honor Code

The pursuit of truth requires the presence of honesty among all involved.  No form of dishonesty among students will be tolerated.  Although all members of our class are encouraged to report occurrences of dishonesty, honesty is principally the responsibility of the individual.  Academic dishonesty takes many forms, from blatant acts of cheating, stealing, or similar misdeeds to the more subtle forms of plagiarism, all of which are totally out of place in our school.  It is important to enforce the policy of academic integrity, to ensure justice, and to protect individual rights.

Extra Credit

Extra Credit opportunities will be made available.  Several guidelines must be followed to receive extra credit.  All assignments are due on the day of the assigned due day and will not be accepted late.  All extra credit projects are assigned by the teacher and will count as one major test grade.

Procedure For Partner Work

Raise your hand if you have a question that your partner cannot answer.
If you finish early, remain quiet or speak to your partner in the target language.
Stop working immediately when you hear the bell.

Procedure For Leaving Class

Check your personal space to remove all your belongings and pick up any trash.
Say farewell to the teacher in the target language.

Tardiness

Tardiness is defined as arriving to class after the scheduled time for class to begin. All students are to be on time and prepared for class.  Tardiness is not acceptable and will be handled according to the following discipline procedures.

After a single tardy the student will receive a warning from the teacher.
A second tardy will result in the teacher assigning a detention to the student.
The fourth and subsequent tardy will be referred to the appropriate administrator for further action, including but not limited to an additional detention, ISS (In school suspension), and OSS (Out of School Suspension).

Absences - Make-Up Work

Class attendance is expected.  Interactions in the target language are a critical dimension of this course.  Absences should be approved by the instructor prior to the date.

Unexcused Absences- when a student acquires an unexcused absence they lose the opportunity to turn in any work that was due the day of the unexcused absence; as well as any assignments done in class on that day.

Excused Absences- given that proper documentation is provided to the teacher/school a student has the opportunity to make-up assignments missed on the day of an excused absence.  It is the responsibility of the student to arrange for make up work.  Make-up work will be completed in a timely manner.  Students will have one (1) day to complete make-up work for every one (1) day absent starting the day they return to school.

Checklist For Absences

 Get the missed assignment.
 Copy and study class notes.
Read and study the pages of the textbook covered.
Ask the teacher or a classmate to clarify any missed information (before or after school.)
Turn in any signed papers that were collected during class.
Take any quiz, test, or other assignment that were given out in class.
Turn in any missed assignments or homework

Since an absence has to be classified as excused before make up work will be given, a student should make all effort to return the excuse note as soon as possible, so they can avoid cutting into their make up time.
