NHCA Policies

The New Hampshire Chess Association has several policies that affect scholastic chess, including the following:

Memberships

Student players who have ratings are required to be members of the NHCA, the membership of which currently costs $6 per year and pays for the quarterly periodical, The New Hampshire Chess Journal.

$40 School Memberships

Schools with many players and which pay for their students' memberships may pay $40 for all of the students in their schools.  This policy can offer a school the opportunity to pay for NHCA membership once and to cover all of their students.

State Championships

The NHCA runs the two state scholastic championships, traditionally held in March and April. The individual champs are usually held in March, and the team championships are held in April.

Free Boards and Sets

The NHCA offers free boards and sets to schools who write letters of request to the NHCA.  These letters may be addressed to any member of the board of directors, who will direct it to the scholastic coordinator.  Any donations must be approved by the board of directors.  After schools receive donations, their advisors write thank you letters to the NHCA.

The Job of the Scholastic Coordinator

The scholastic coordinator is charged with facilitating scholastic chess in New Hampshire.  This includes setting a schedule for next yearıs tournaments; finding hosts and TDs for these tournaments; informing the players, coaches, and parents of the tournaments and policies; answering questions and concerns; holding parentsı and coachesı meetings at the state championships; implementing good suggestions; and promoting chess in New Hampshire.

Salaries and Stipends

The members of the board of directors work as volunteers.  No one makes any money or receives a salary or a stipend for their efforts to promote chess in New Hampshire.
