2001-2002 Highlights

In September, we indulged ourselves with an ice cream social. The best news was that eveyone brought a different topping! And we were please to be able to present a check for $5797.01 to Cookie Mays from the Houston and Southeast Texas Alzheimer's Association for our work at the Shell Houston Open.

We also met in late September at a pottery shop in Old Town Spring and all created wonderful objects.

In October, we had a wonderful time with a scavanger hunt at The Woodlands Mall! What a competition between the two teams! And we ended the night with a cookie and coffee at Starbucks!

November, of course, is the time to remember and celebrate our history. We met in the Pope Room at Buca Di Beppo, in The Woodlands, for a wonderful dinner. We also surprised Katie Belling with a 50-year pin.

Our traditional holiday ornament exchange was again a highlight of the year, made even more special this year with an unexpected visit by Louise Rochford, who flew in from Scottsdate for the occasion.

Rookies Bar and Grill played host to a group of sisters for karaoke night in January. We are singing stars!

Janaury also brought a craft day and surprise baby shower for Janene Evans. Thanks to all who also helped put together the February 2002 newsletter.

Our February event included our spouses or guests at a brunch at Landry's. 'How well do you know your spouse' contest was won by Jenn and Mike Roth.

February was also a sad time for us, as we learned of the death of one of our members, Mary Anne LaPointe Morrison, BT. She will be remembered as a dear sister and one of our hardest workers at the Shell Houston Open. In her memory, we made a donation to the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

In March we had a wonderful time at the Northwest Harris County Panhellenic Scholarship Luncheon at Raveneaux County Club. Deb Bronner again made us proud as a gorgeous model.

Bunko was our fun event in March. Jenn's son, Brendon, was the hit of the evening.

A few of us enjoyed a day at Kemah shopping on the waterfront.

May saw us getting together to work on our chapter scrap book, and later in the month meeting at Buffalo Wild Wings to enjoy food and sisterhood.

We had three members join over 800 sisters at the 2002 national convention in Scottsdale Arizona in June.

The Sigma Kappa convention was also a wonderful opportunity to meet three enthusiastic members of our collegiate chapter, Beta Epsilon. We especially enjoyed the awards banquet where both chapters were honored. Pictured, from left to right, Jenny Taliaferro, BE, Carole Townsend, BT, Lisa Smith, BE, Monique Malmgren, BY, Jennifer Teat, BE, Liz Rimer, EX, and Patricia Flournoy, BE, advisory board chair. Congratulations to our own Carole Townsend who was elected national vice president of administration.

In July, we closed out the year on a winning note by cheering the Houston Astros on to a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Minute Maid Park.
