1995-96 Highlights

In October, we began our Tupperware fund-raiser, and had fun painting our Sigma Kappa angels which we took to the national convention Violet Shop.

On November 4, we participated in the 1995 Greater Houston Memory Walk which raises much needed funds for the local Alzheimer's Association. Although it was cold (for Houston) and early, we had a great time, and were all shown up by Donna Imrecke's son, Danny!

Founders' Day on November 12 was a real treat. We got to know one of our newest members, Margaret Harpster, who was presented with her 50-year member pin.

Our favorite event is always our Christmas Ornament exchange. We all went home with a lovely ornament and Christmas cookies. Alicia Goodrick also took home one of hostess Louise Rochford's cats!

In January, we were privileged to have a speaker from the Alzheimer's Association give us updates on what is happening in fighting this dreadful disease. In addition, we presented her with a check for $200.00.

In February, we met for a fun night of bowling and in March we met at the Steak-N-Ale in Humble to get to know our sisters in that area better.

In April, we received special permission to hold The Order of The Triangle Ceremony. Many of our members had never participated in this ritual which occurs at graduation. Helen Manlove, Marion Frutiger, and Glenna Pierpont from the Houston Alumnae Chapter came to share this exciting event with us. These ladies were authors of this wonderful ceremony.

In May we had a pool party and salad supper. We had so much fun talking and eating that no one even remembered to go in the pool!

Our highlight of the year was undoubtedly our first Mother/Daughter Tennis Tournament held in February. We had glorious weather, good tennis, great food, and lots of compliments from the participants and observers alike! The day was a huge success and we'll be doing it again next February!
