I was born in Madison, WI on Christmas day to Robert and Marie, two research scientists at UW-Madison. As usual, I couldn't wait to get things underway so I arrived a week ahead of schedule and early in the morning.
I spent my middle school years at Akira Toki Middle school and while I made many of the friends I still have now there, I hated being there. These were possibly the worst three years of my life. I know that everyone goes through an awkward phase but come on! Did it have to be so darn awkward? I was the sterotypical geek: bad haircut, quiet, smart, acne, braces, glasses and chubby. I was socially very unsure of myself as well, which did not help matters.
High school was better than middle school by entire magnitudes. I went about aggressivly getting rid of my acne right from the start, I had at least a small group of friends and I had contacts and the braces were off. I also had a whole new pool of people with which to interact and took advantage of it while staying faithful to my awkward roots; I joined a Dungeons and Dragons group.
College, thus far, has blown all the other levels of education out of the water, except for perhaps preschool but you just can't beat playing all day, having snacks and taking a nap before going home after half of a day. Granted, the days are now longer when homework, housework and jobs are taken into account and the responsibility is WAY higher than it was when I was a minor but I've enjoyed it for the most part.
Since being in college, I've had a chance to do a lot of travelling, due in part to the fact that my family is no longer in the state. Also, with an increase in my education, I've been able to get better jobs, especially those in my chosen field. Because I now do research, I've had the chance to present my work at national meetings and get to see new places in the U.S. but perhaps, given time, I will be able to travel to these meetings in other countries as well.
incomplete long story
I enjoyed my time in elementary school for the most part, although I did stand out from many of my peers even then. It was here that I started to meet some the people I would be friends with for many years, as we all lived in the same school district and were often in the same classes. Most notably was my friend Ann, with whom I am still friends even if we don't see one another very often anymore.
