Dickhead the chief hare had given minute instructions on how to get to the start.  All fine and dandy, but seemingly beyond the comprehension of our Surrey Hasher’s whose late arrival delayed the start.  Mind you the hares were also alarmingly late getting back to the car park, and then refused to reveal if we were going to have a pub stop en-route.

I should have known better, only as we broke the circle to follow the flour did they reveal that money was required.  So I had to return to the car to get money giving the other FRBs a head start.  JGG took control to find the first check across a field, before another check went to partner Old Thumper up a lane.  I then found the next one before we climbed up a disused quarry and then to a plateau  with a wide panoramic view of open heathland.  I then found a couple more as we hugged  a ridge of an old railway line, while either side were dotted  pools of water and small clumps of trees.  Dormouse was busy as usual and scurried along to find a check before Cloggs in good running form, picked up the scent and found consecutive checks along tracks leading to a hill by a plantation.  Dormouse then found flour as we descended a hill toward the Applegate pub, scene of last years run.

Suitably refreshed we departed except that is for our Surrey contingent , who waited in the pub for Dodo.  Unfortunately, she had departed unnoticed and they really never caught up after that.  I found two checks as we entered a wood, and after exiting the other side lead the FRBs on a fools errand as a circle of blobs brought us back to where I started.  Old Thumper then called On to take us along a wide boggy trail before we slipped down into a small valley with a stream.  Rent Boy found a way out further along,  From then on he, Dormouse and I took turns as we drove in a constant direction back to the ridge edge, Rent Boy then got the check that took us down a slippery path to a stile and a road.  I took us home along roads to the pub with Rent Boy and Dormouse next in, but the girls were not to be outdone and Cloggs and Old Thumper beat the rest of the men home.
