When I think of actors who best fit the role of Lex Luthor, there's one name that comes to mind .... Telly Salvalas. Not only does he have the look (a big guy with a bald head ), but he also has the cunning attitude and commanding voice. Hey, if you can play Ernst Stavro Blofeld (# 1 man in the SPECTER organization and James Bond's arch nemesis), you can definitely play Lex Luthor.

The likeness isn't too bad considering it was completed in less than 45 minutes (3/4 of an episode of the X-Files .... I can't explain the missing 15 minutes ). There are some features that need to be fixed, but at this point I'm just thankful I had enough discipline to complete the project as is.

The body is a DC 9" superheroes doll. I chose this body for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, my vision of Lex is that of a large blocky man (Bruce Timm and all those years of watching STAS took its toll). I felt that the FC type 2 body would be too large for him. Similarly, the FC type 1 body is too thin for the look I was after. Fortunately, DC body fits perfectly between these two and fully cloth, those ugly Hasbro elbow joints don't show up. Second and almost as important, I got a DC 9" body on clearance for $3.74 ... call me a cheap customizer :-).

On a side note, this is one of my most versatile custom. With a hat and trench, he can easily transform into Kojak, "who loves ya baby!!!" I can also sculpt a fluffy white cat and convert him into Ernest Blofeld to battle my Connery figure. Okay Salvalas wasn't the best Blofeld, but he did do something no other villain can claim, he killed Bond's wife. I won't even attempt to touch the Dirty Dozen. Telly had a younger face then. Besides, if I even start on one Dirty Dozen, I'd have to spend the next few years completing Jim Brown, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson and the rest of the crew.
