I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge of Dr. Fate is very limited .... mainly from STAS. However, I love the design of his costume and the way his character was portrayed in the Animated series. The costume is patterned after the Alex Ross JSA lithograph.

The head is modeled after the likeness of Sam Neill. Right now, you're probably asking why in the H E double hockey stick did I cast Sam Neill for the role of Dr Fate?!?! The answer is pretty simple. Sam played another powerful sorcerer in a NBC movie Merlin. Combine this with his role as a Paleontologist (close enough to a archeologist in my book ) in Jurassic Park and it was easy for me to put him into the role of Kent Nelson. The helmet was made in a similar manner the Orion project. I sculpted the helmet unto the head itself and made a rotocast of it. The head fits quite nicely and he doesn't have a case of big noggins' or pinhead syndrome that many removable helmet figures have. I got lucky in that the eyes are perfectly lined with the eyeholes on his helmet.

Like all my other FCs, Dr. Fate has the "unpatented Tung enhanced body" thanks to Magic Sculp. I also added a ball neck joint so he could have a full range of head movement. From head to toes, he's 9" tall (9.15" with the helmet on). This give him a scale size of 6.0' - 6'1". The outfit was made from lycra. The amulet is a designer button I found at JoAnn's. The boots and gloves were also made from lycra, but lined with stiff 2mm thick vinyl, to make it look more like a boot instead of a sock. The cape is double layered stitched and patterned after the original look of his cape (thin at the top and flares out at the bottom). I reposed the right hand into a "spellcasting" pose. Of course it looks really odd when he just standing, so odds are that I'll give him interchangeable hands in the near future. The hardest part was matching the gold color of the lycra with that of the hand. If you haven't noticed, not even Toy Biz can do this. It was my sister who suggested using nail polish and just my luck, there was a near perfect color match with a gold nail polish I found at Target.
