The most important factor in the success of a planted tank is adequate lighting.

A beautiful planted aquarium does not have to be high-tech (and therefore high-cost). But low-tech is not synonymous with unscientific. A lot of research has gone into the setup of this tank. I picked and chose between different alternatives, always with an eye on keeping costs down. In the following pages, I describe my planted aquarium, often with footnotes on my early mistakes so they are not repeated by others.
